Re: Dùn Dèagh or Dùn Dè?

Hi Creag,

Both are acceptable. Dropping the -agh at the end is the same with the word for day - latha, you can simply drop the -tha and use là. There are probably a few more words that do this. It doesn't change the pronunciation so there is no need for the letters that are being omitted.

I know the difference between aig and air. I have no idea why I am confusing the two. I shouldn't be making mistakes like that.

Tha mi ag ionnsachadh rud ùr bho gach post.

Re: The negative imperative form

That makes sense. I read somewhere that when using the imperative, you're not asking permission to do something but making a command or a suggestion. Also that the most regularly used would be faic, faicibh and faiceamaid. [In this case the 2nd person sing, 2nd person pl. and 3rd person pl.] Faic is...

Re: Occupations

So could any of the examples be used or is it a case of just learning the correct form for each occupation?

Occupations

I was sitting writing in Gaelic and tried to write the word runner. I realised I have no idea what it should be so I checked out how to form occupations from verbs or nouns. I am still none the wiser. Ruithiche Ruithear Ruitheadair Fear/Bean ruith 's e ruithiche a th' annam looks right to me. 's e u...

A shame some of the commentators beneath the story don't share our enthusiasm. :(

Online, I find this one useful

but if you want a hard copy then the best dictionary is Dwelly's illustrated Gàidhlig Dictionary. It is available on Amazon for about $27

Re: What Made You Want To Learn Gàidhlig?

Dh' ionnsaich mi 's a Ghàidhlig a chionn bha Gàidhlig aig mo sheanair. Bha e à Geàrrloch agus phòs e mo sheanmhair, bha i à Dùn Èideann agus chan eil Gàidhlig oirre idir idir. Chleachd iad 's a Bheurla ann an taigh agus cho bha i càillte. Bu thoil le m' athair Gàidhlig dh' ionnsachadh ach cha do rin...
