Re: Litir do Luchd-ionnsachaidh archives?

The old archives are still there, under the Foghlam section, but I do not know how long they will continue to be available. Judging by the wording on the archive page and the fact they haven't added the last two Litir to the archive, it looks like they are phasing out the old archives: http://www.bb...

How do we wish to handle corrections?

Edit by GunChleoc: This post was split from aonother thread. I think it makes an important point, so please do discuss :) This is for everyone : if you spot a possible mistake (very few native-speakers on here and even they make slips and typos etc :spors: ), by all means point it out / query it / ...

Re: Iris Ghàidhlig air-loidhne ùr: Dàna

Leugh mi beagan artaigilean agus 's glè thoil leam i. Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Breatnais 's beagan Ogsatanais cuideachd agus bha mi glè thoilichte gu sgrìobh Steaphan ('s e An Gobaire a tha air an-seo, nach e?) artaigil mu cànan roinneil na Frainge. :moladh:

Re: Pronunciation of /s/

Touch the base of your (upper) teeth where the tooth meets your gums with the tip and you got it. If you move away from the gums, yes, you start sounding a little odd :) I definitely hear this /s/ from many native speakers. To my American ear, it stands out very distinctly. It's one of the tell-tal...

Re: Top tips for new Gaelic learners?

Tha mi ag aontachadh riut, Àdhamh! Kids aquire language differently than adults. Their brains learn faster and can pick up much more things passively, and thus can aquire more information about a language in vastly shorter amounts of time. With more information in their heads, they can better and mo...

Re: AGA Online Courses - Feedback

Tha mi an dòchas gum bidh e còrdadh ribh. But a little warning from someone who took 4 years of classes with them: I started at the intermediate level and continued up from there. The first two years were great. The third, so-so. The fourth, just terrible. They didn't really know how to put together...

Re: Taibhs agus an da shealladh

I know a bit about this--it is a common theme on old Gaelic stories. Sometimes a character in the story is assumed to have it without it being directly mentioned. It's often a woman, but sometimes male characters have it. It draws from old Celtic ideas about having a connection to the supernatural t...

Re: Luirgean Eachainn Nill

It was actually put out by Acair books, which is a Scottish publisher, and it's been long out of print, as far as I know. I don't know where one could get a copy although as a resident of Nova Scotia, you could look into local library collections. Simply head to you local library and pester the libr...

Re: ...Losag?

Yeah, the game tends to result in badly garbled messes like that, which is kind of the point. Some of the mistakes in the text which Hallow posted may not be the tr*nsl*t*r's fault, but mistakes in the tr*nsl*t**n he/she got and unwittingly reproduced or compounded. At Unilang they have a similar ga...
