Re: Goirid gu Fada [Short to Long]
Gàidhlig Tha mi a' ruigheachd a-mach gu sibh. Tha i a' flodadh air an gaoth. Tha i a' goireadh sibh dhan fòn. An toil leat dachaigh agam? Beurla I am reaching out to you = Tha mi a' ruigsinn oirbh It is floating on the wind = Tha i (she) a' flodadh air a' ghaoth ( prepositional case lenites) She is...

Re: Goirid gu Fada [Short to Long]
Here I come out of reading mode into writing. This past year I have learned a lot thanks to the AGA class and my classmates. I am still wrapping my head around some concepts, probably due to my lack of grammatical english knowledge :). I speak it and have no idea of how it is all put together in te...

Re: Tha a' seinn bh' Èirinn / A song from Ireland
My own thought about the bit at the start, where you are expressing that this has been in your head for a bit and asking if it is correct, would be to say Tha seo air a bhith 'nam cheann car ùine. Am bheil seo ceart? If you use bha, it implies to me that it was in your head and has now gone - the us...

Re: Chunnaic mi rudeigin inntinneach an-dè
A Chairistiona - nuair a bhios sibh a' cleachadh "chunnaic" san am a tha air dol seachad, 'sann mar seo a tha sin ag obair. "Chunnaic mi sin" - "Am faca tu sin?" "Nach fhaca tu sin?" is "Thubhairt e (he said) gum faca mi sin." Nuair a bhios sibh a' c...

Re: Chunnaic mi rudeigin inntinneach an-dè
A Chairistiona - seo na beachdan agam fhìn air na sgrìobh sibh. Gàidhlig Chaidh mi a steach don bhaile air an deireadh-seachdainn còmhla ris an duine agam agus ri mo nighean. (Tha sinn a' fuireach ann an Ottowa, Canada.) Fàisg air Togalaich na Pàrlamaid, chunnaic sinn duine agus a bhean. Bha esan a'...

Change fuilingidh which means suffer, and endure in that sense, to mairidh, which means endure in the sense of last, survive.
Second line, a h-uile looks better to me.

Re: Ceistean: TYG
Hello Eilidh - just a couple of comments. At the start where you use "an dàrna pàirt de m'obair" (dont for get the stracan as the a's in dàrna and pàirt are long), my own instinct there would be to say "Seo an dàrna pàirt de mo chuid obrach", the inplication being that this is po...

Re: Ceistean: TYG
Duilich - cha robh mi eòlach air an fhacal "fiosan" idir, agus bha mi a' smaoineachadh gum b'e "fios" ann an ciall iomarra a bha air a chleachdadh - nì "dà bhrath" an gnothach.

Just looking at your last two messages - "air neo" = or, so the construction you have given is not really one you would want to use. The main issue as faoileag said is the use of "mura". Bidh mi nam laighe air a chùiste looks fine to me. Back at the start of your original message...

Re: A couple of "essays"
FInally, I would see (as would Dwelly) the plural of long being longan. I initially misread it too, but the word in question is fleet ( loinges ) rather than ( long ). I think that cabhlach is a more usual word for a fleet though. Yes, I see what you mean. I think I would prefer cabhlach, but that ...

Re: A couple of "essays"
Just picked this up from Twitter, and there were on or two thing which struck me. The first thing is rugadh and thogadh. I would tend to write and say this "Am baile far an do rugadh mi agus far an do thogadh mi" - past passives, so the "do" gives the preterite - if you want to h...

Re: expression
You might like to use the following construction Bha e na sgrìobhadair mar a bha athair roimhe, agus athair-sa roimhe-san, which constructs it using the emphatic endings for the noun (athair) and the prepositional pronoun (roimhe - before him), in relation to the further away relationship. That's ce...
