Omission of the definite article before a role or title

Where did you get that sentence from anyway? You imply you have seen or heard it somewhere. It could be, as was my first assumption (and possibly Gun Chleoc's), that you replaced an actual name with "Ionadail" to save their face, thereby unwittingly changing the grammar from a genitive nou...

All the main verb tenses in Gàidhlig, no more mystery!

Also keep an eye out for an affordable copy of Colin Mark's large G>E dictionary. Apart from being an incredibly useful dictionary, crammed with examples, it has a book-sized grammar appendix at the back, with a stomping great section on verbs. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gaelic-English-Dictionary-Scot...

All the main verb tenses in Gàidhlig, no more mystery!

Several things :priob: : Could have, should have (ought to have, must have, might have etc) are no longer 'tenses', but different modal verbs. English and Gaelic treat these modals, and also some of the other 'tenses' you list, very differently - these are conceptual differences. You are hanging ont...

Are there any films made in Gàidhlig language?

If you don't mind watching soaps for the good of your Gaelic, you can find episodes of two soaps, Machair (older) and Bannan (recent and current) on YouTube. There is also a Gaelic Short Film competition every year, FilmG (varying quality) - earlier entries here: http://filmg.co.uk/en/films/filmg201...

Fàilte dhan fhòram / Welcome to the forum

Fàilte, a Ghreum66! Great that you're finding your way back to what you had in your early years. :D And that's a good reminder, about native-speakers not always being very confident with reading and writing - that does indeed make them understandably wary of eager learners, as some on here have note...

Halo a' chàirdean

Fàilte, Pierre! :D Nach math gu bheil thu ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig agus gu bheil do chuid cloinne san sgoil Ghàidhlig cuideachd. Tha iomadh cothrom ionnsachaidh agus cleachdaidh ri fhaighinn ann an Dùn Èideann, le tachartasan agus cùrsaichean sa bhaile agus aig an Oilthigh, ach bhiomaid glè thoilicht...

How to find out the verbal noun form of a verb from the dictionary/imperative form? I'm trying to learn all verb tenses

Verbal nouns ARE listed in both LearnGaelicDict and in Am Faclair Beag (and in virtually all other dictionaries too, immediately after the command/stem form). In LearnGaelic, you have to click on the drop-down menu (double arrow) after each word to get the other forms of that word, incl. the verbal ...
