Facail Loingeach / Nautical Words

'S e muir-dhealbhadair is seòladair a th' annam. Tha am facail fèin aig na seòladairean. Tha 'bollard', 'starboard', is 'bulwark' aca mar eisimpleir. A bheil fios agaibh air an cainnt loingeach Gaidhlig? I work as a hydrographer and sailor. Sailors have their own words. They have 'bollard', 'starboa...

Re: Dè tha san ainm?/ What's in the name?

Is mise Jason. There is no Gaelic to my name as I know. My last name is Wilson though. I know at least that it is a sept of either Gunn or Innes, and I lean toward Gunn. Obviously means son of William and, for the Gunns it is possibly from A Will Gunn who took just family and moved it south. The far...

Tha i grianach ann Yorktown an dràsda ach bhiodh e sneachda a-nochd.

It is sunny in Yorktown now, but it should snow tonight.

Ciamar a chanas sibh "It might snow tonight" ann an Gàdhlig?

How would you say ... in Gàidhlig?

Thinking I was supposed to have said " 'S e seoladair a th' annam" rather than "tha mi seoladair" back there.

Well pleased to meet you, hope to be able to speak more Gaelic with you soon.

Ha ha, Chan e! I was hoping gioragach meant excited, I see it can mean skittish too.

'S e, tha mi seoladair. At least I was. I just finished a ship based assignment, now they've given me command of a desk for a few years.

Dh'ithe mi min-choirce air a madainn.

I ate oatmeal this morning.

Have I said that correctly?

Hallo! Is mise Jason. Tha mi a fuireach an Virginia. Excited to be a part of the group. Hoping to learn to think Gàidhlig rather than just reading and writing it (though I need to learn those too :priob: ). Best of luck to everyone!
