Quick question on why I was wrong to put something in the nominative. Two examples:

1. Lovely Day (It is a lovely day in X)

1.1 'S e latha brèagha a th' ann ann am Port Righ
1.2 'S e latha brèagha a th' ann anns an Eilean Sgitheanach

Place names in Dative form as they follow "in". Dative shift only noticeable for The Isle of Skye as Portree doesn't have a definite article.

2. Lovely Place (X is a lovely place)

2.1 'S e àite brèagha a th' ann am Port Righ
2.2 'S e àite brèagha a th' anns an t-Eilean Sgitheanach

I left the place names in nominative form as I didn't think they were following a simple preposition. However, 2.2 was corrected to:

S e àite brèagha a th' anns an Eilean Sgitheanach

I'm not clear why this correction was made. What preposition is The Isle of Skye following in 2.2?

You need the dative both after "ann an" and "anns an". The "s" in "anns an" is a marker that you're using the article there.

Rule of thumb: always use the dative after a preopsition. There are some exceptions where you use the genitive though.
