No need, I know how it's done, since I once programmed an extra button for another forum. Good idea; I'll start a poll to see if there is demand for it.

Hey Coinneach, I don't know what flavour of Linux you're planning on, but I use ubuntu and in that you can reconfigure the windows key to be the "compose key". You can then get loads of other characters easily. (You can use another key for this too, but you might as well use the windows key since it'll be lying idle.) For instance, hold compose while you press ` (top left corner probably) then release then press a and you'll get à. The same process with comp+' then e gives é, or comp+s then s gives ß and so on... I imagine there'll be something similar for other Linux distros too. :)

Cadalach: taing mhòr airson sin.
Its Kubuntu I've installed, while installing I selected an English (international) layout which appears to give me accents the same way as I do now (by pressing the key to the left of '1') but that seems to have broken my apostrophes or inverted commas or something. I'm back in XP at the moment but will make time next week to go back into Kubuntu and play with it more, I've had problems with adept updater and not (so far) being able to install an nvidia graphics driver which means I'm stuck at 800X600 which is pretty unpleasant.

I have now added a row of buttons for accented vowels, and an FAQ entry on the subject. :D

Just a quick note to say thanks for putting the codes necessary for accenting letters the easy way - it will come handy.

Hope you're not working too hard - lol.

Mar sin leat an-dràsta agus mòran taing. :D

Due to the board upgrade, we have lost our fancy Ω-button. So, you will need to have the accents on your keyboards now until I can find or create a replacement.

Editing this post because silly me didn't read the last update before posting. :naire: I guess I'm out of luck on accents for now. Please forgive me for not including them!

If you can't install a keyboard layout, you can copy/paste the characters from the forum header (Ctrl C for copying Ctrl V for pasting. Or use the right mouse button).

Haha, I never even thought of that. Thanks for the idea! It's not a problem on my phone because I've downloaded a a Gaelic plugin for my phone keyboard, but the laptop is a different story.

Lorg mi tuilleadan ùr agus ma chleachdas tu am putan "Roghainnean slàna ⁊ ro-shealladh" nuair a bhios tu a' sgrìobhadh freagairt, gheibh thu tabaichean ùra ri taobh nan samhlaidhean-gnùis. Tha an ⁊ ri fhaighinn sna "Samhlaidhean measgaichte."

I have found a new extenstion, so if you use the "Full Editor & Preview" while replying, you will get new tabs next to the smilies. The ⁊ is available in the "Miscellaneous Symbols" tab.
