Mo Chat-sa

Unread post by IainDonnchaidh »

Tha cat dubh 's geal[ban?] agam. 'S e "Odie" an t-ainm a tha air.

(Thug mo nighean an t-ainm, bho Semitic "Oded")

'S toil leam Odie gu leor! The e a' cadal rium oiche uile. Laighidh e air mo ghualainn, agus a cheann ri taobh mo ghruaidh.

Nuair mise 's mo bhean ag luasgadh an leabaidh, 's beag air sin!

Theid e air falbh griseag, ach thig e air ais ro fhada.

Curaibh àrd-solas[?] airson Beurla:
I have a black and white cat. His name is Odie.

(My daughter gave him the name, from the Semitic Oded)

I like Odie plenty! He sleeps with me every night. He will lie on my shoulder with his head against my cheek.

When my wife and I "rock the bed", he doesn't like that!

He will go away for a while, but he will come back before long.

An e "do cat" a bhios ann? Bha mi den bheachd gur e "do chat" a dh'fheumas an-seo.

I thought that it need be lenition here: do chat.

Ach tha mi air sin a lorg agus 's e "b'àbhaist do Phàdraig", "b'àbhaist do Donaidh", "cha b' àbhaist do bhoireannaich" agus "B’ àbhaist do bòrd-dubh" a tha anns an eadar-lìon... Tha mi nam bhreisleach :?

I've searched in the internet though, and there are the examples with lenition and without it... I'm puzzled

Agus ann am Beurla?.. Gabhaibh mo leisgeul, ach chan eil mi a' tuigsinn.

And in English?.. Sorry, but do not understand.

Tha an Eadar-lìn làn luchd-ionnsachaidh... Tha e feumail a bhith a' cothromachadh seasmhachd nan làraichean-lìn far a bheil am facal/an abairt a' nochdadh - mar eisimpleir, tha Am Baile fada nas seasmhaiche na blog air choireigin.

The Net is full of learners... It's useful to also consider the reliability of the websites where the word/phrase appears - eg Am Baile is much more reliable than some blog.

Eilidh - nuair a chanar "B' àbhaist do XXX a bhith aig mo bhràthair", chan e "do XXX" a th' ann. Dè th' ann sa Bheurla - rudeigin mar "It was usual for a cat to be at my brother", sin e, "It was usual for", dòigh Ghàidhlig air "There used", mar "There used a cat to be at my brother". Agus nuair a chruithnichear a' Bheurla, beag air bheag, chithear gu bheil "do" air falbh. (There used a cat to be at my brother => There used to be a cat at my brother => My brother used to have a cat). Mar sin, ged a tha "cat" an dèidh "do", cha dèan a h-uile duine sèimheachadh an seo.

C-Spice - chan eil seo ceart, "Tha a' bruidhinn de cait". 'S dòcha rudeigin coltach ri "Le bruidhinn air cait" (with speaking on cats) ach chan eil mi cinnteach.
