NO, ro doesn't get abbreviated there. Perhaps because it used to be written roimh, so there wasn't a vowel-on-vowel situation, or possibly because it's a fairly emphatic wee word, so tends to get pronounced clearly before the adjective.

It does join onto 'an' to give 'ron', however (= before the , eg ron Tuil - before the Flood).

Short , of people, is usally just 'beag'.

The adjective 'geàrr' is related to the verb 'geàrr, a' gearradh' = to cut, so it has more of a sense of being shortened, brief, cut down.
geàrr-sgrìobhadh = shorthand.


You chose 'aithghearr' (sudden, over swiftly) for 'short' in your title - in fact probably 'geàrr' would be good there - geàrr is milis - not that that's also a Gaelic idiom, as far as I know, but people will certainly understand it!

Could be OK - cianail means mournful, melancholy, but would be more likely with a person. Since this is "it", I"d go for "truagh" or "bochd" - e.g. news, a situation etc. There are fixed expressions: Nach bochd sin! Is truagh sin!
