Carson a tha sibh ag ionnsachadh Gaidhlig?

Unread postby Car Chugallach » Thu Feb 21, 2013 1:56 am

Failte oirbh uile! :D
Am faod mi faighneachd carson a tha sibh uile ag ionnsachadh Gaidhlig?

Air mo shon fhein tha mise ag ionnsachadh a' chànain a bha aig mo shinn-seanairean.
Cha d' ionnsaich mo pharantan no mo sheanairean facal sam bith de'n Ghaidhlig oir bha mo shinn-seanairen de'n bheachd gum bitheadh daoine a' coimhead orra mar duine borb ma bha iad a' bruidhinn sa ghaidhlig

Grettings on you all :D
May I ask why you are all learning Gaelic?

On my own behalf I am learning the language that was at my great grandparents.
Neither my parents nor my grandparents have a word of Gaelic as my Great grandfathers (Like many Gaelic speakers of the time) were of the opinion that people would be looking on them as uncivilized if they spoke in the Gaelic

Uill, tha mi ag ionnsachadh fhèin an Gàidhlig oir tha mi a' saoilsinn gu bheil e cànan glè bhoidheach, cho tha na cànain Ceiltiche eile, agus oir cha b'ait leam ma mharbhadh aon chànan cho riomhach. Tha e a chionn a tha mi ag ionnsachadh - mar as motha a tha e luchd-bruidhne is ann as fhearr. ;)

Well, I myself am learning Gaelic because I think that it's a very beautiful language, as are the other Celtic languages, and because (I wouldn't like it/it would make me sad) if a language this elegant dies. That's the reason why I learn it - the more speakers it has, the better. ;)

Fàilte oirbh cuideachd!

'S ann le tuiteamas gu léir a thachair a' Ghàidhlig rium. Air tùs aig an robh mu timcheall a' Mhàirt sa chaidh, chuir mi ri Cuimris ionnsachadh romhad. Ach ma-thà dh'éist mi cuideigin aig an robh a' bruidhinn a' Ghàidhlig air làrach-lìn air choireigin, 's ann sa bhad a ghabh mi gràdh air a' chànan. Tha i air prìomhachas a bhith a h-uile là ré na bliadhna sa chaidh agus chan leig mi dhìom mo chuid Ghàidhlig a-chaoidh. :D

I stumbled upon Gàidhlig completely by accident. At the start around last March, I decided to learn Welsh. But then I heard someone speaking Gàidhlig on some website and immediately I fell in love with the language. It's been a priority everyday during the last year and I'll never give it up!

B' e štengr a bha ann (chan eil facal Gàidhlig agam air, rudeigin coltach ri "raillery" sa Bheurla 's dòcha, chanainn gun do thig e bhon Ghearmailtis): fhuair mi TYG bho chuideigin aig an robh fios gu bheil ùidh ann an Alba agam, agus on a bha mi cinnteach gum b' e fealla-dhà is nach do chreid e gun tòisichinn ga h-ionnsachadh, thòisich mi. Fhuair mi cèiseag, chòrd fuaim a' chànain rium, agus 's e ionnsachadh cànain dibhearsan mhath. Le tuiteamas, nuair a chrìochnaich mi an leabhar, fhuair mi air loidhne, thachair mi air "saoghal Gàidhlig air an Lìon" - chiallaich sin tuilleadh dibhearsain, agus thionndaidh e gu tràillealachd. Sin a h-uile rud.

It was a štengr (don't know the Gaelic for it, something like English "raillery", probably a corruption of some German word): I got a TYG from somebody who knew about my interest in Scotland, and as I was sure it was a joke and he didn't believe I'd actually begin learning it, I did. I got a cassette, liked the way the language sounded, and language learning is fun. By accident, when I finished the book I got online, noticed there was a "Gaelic part of the Net" - which meant more fun, and later turned into addiction. That's all.

Dhomhsa dheth, thadhail fuaim a' chànain nam chluasan dhan ionnsachadh cuideachd. Tha cuirm-ciùil Runrig ann an 2005 as coireach :D

For me too, it was the sound of the language in my ears that drew me to learn. A Runrig concert in 2005 is to blame

Rè an t-Samhradh an-uiridh, leugh mi Kidnapped le Robert Louis Stevenson a-rithist. Thuit mi a-bhàn air na h-Alba (agus Ailean Breac :D ). Thòisich mi fhèin a' sgrìobh sgeulachd mu a' Ghàidhealtachd, agus bha mi ag iarraidh còmhradh Gàidhlig beagan. Thòisich mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig air loidhne, agus bha an cànan cho dhibhearsain gun robh lean mi ag ionnsachadh (stad mi a' sgrìobh an sgeulachd :P ). A-nis TYG agam cuideachd. Ach chan eil mi glè mhath fhathast idir!

Last summer I re-read Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. I fell in love with Scotland (and Alan Breck :D ). I myself began writing a story about the Highlands, and I wanted to have a little Gaelic dialogue in it. I started learning Gaelic online, and the language was so fun that I just kept learning (I stopped writing the story :P ). Now I have TYG too. But I'm not very good at all yet!

Carson a tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig:
Why I'm learning Gaelic:

Tha i air leth agus deacair.
It's a challenge (different and difficult).

Tha mi a' cluinntinn gu math.
It sounds cool.

Tha an MacGaraidh Beag-Mòr ag ràdh thugam ann Gàidhlig car uair.
Sometimes the Convenor of Clan Hay South Australia speaks to me in Gaelic.

Tha Julie Fowlis glè mhath.
Julie Fowlis is awesome.

Tha an pàipear-naidheachd Clann Gharaidh ag ràdh ann Gàidhlig car uair.
Sometimes the Clan Hay newsletter is written in Gaelic.

Chan eil an athair agam ag ràdh Gàidhlig.
My father can't speak it.

There are other, more complicated reasons, but I don't have enough Gaelic to say them yet.

'S toil leam fhìn Julie Fowlis.
I myself like JF

'S e leabhar iongantach a tha ann. Agus tapadh leibh airson nan ceartachaidhean. Tha mi feumach orra gu dearbh!

Tha i air leth agus deacair. -> No quite what you wanted to say. Tha i eadar-dhealaichte is doirbh.

Tha mi a' cluinntinn gu math. = I am hearing well. -> Is toil leam a fuaim / Tha fuaim mhath/sgoinneil/thaghta oirre

Bruidhnidh .... sa Ghàidhlig rium uaireannan.

Tha am pàipear- ... sgrìobhte sa Ghàidhlig uaireannan.

Chan eil a' Ghàidhlig aig m' athair.

Considering you have been learning only for a short time, you did very well! :moladh:
