Hello,

I know that the verb for "to forget" is "a 'dìochuimhneachadh", and that the pronoun "us" is "dhuinn", but I'm not sure how to make the sentence negative. Do I use "chan" or "na" at the beginning of the sentence?

Would it be "Na dìochuimhnich dhuinn?" Or "Na dìochuimhnichibh dhuinn?" Or something else?

Also, please correct my Gaelic in this post, because I want to learn correctly.

Cheers.

Halò,

Tha fios agam gu bheil a 'ghnìomhair airson "to forget" tha "a' dìochuimhneachadh", agus gu bheil an pronoun "us" 'S e "dhuinn", ach nach eil mi cinnteach ciamar a dhèanadh an t-seantans àicheil. A bheil mi a 'cleachdadh "chan" no "na" aig toiseach an t-seantans?

'S e, "Na dìochuimhnich dhuinn?" No "Na dìochuimhnichibh dhuinn?" No rudeigin eile?

Cuideachd, cuiribh a cheartachadh mo na Gàidhlig san sgrìobhainn seo, oir tha mi airson a bhith ag ionnsachadh gu ceart.

Slàinte.

Na dìochuimhnich mi: for 1 person you would be on a firstname basis with in an English language context (actually, it's culturally a bit different, but this will do for now)
Na dìochuimhnichibh mi: for everybody else or multiple persons

Tha fios agam gur e "dìochuimhneachadh" a tha sa ghnìomhair air "to forget" agus gur e "dhuinn" a tha san roimhear "us" ach nach eil mi cinnteach ciamar nì mi seantans ceart dhiubh. An cleachd mi "chan" no "na" aig toiseach an t-seantans?

An e "Na dìochuimhnich dhuinn?" no "Na dìochuimhnichibh dhuinn?" a th' ann? No rudeigin eile?

Cuideachd, an ceartaich sibh mo chuid Gàidhlig san sgrìobhainn seo, oir tha mi airson ionnsachadh gu ceart.

But this means "do not forget ME." I want it to sound like the group of my Gaelic ancestors are asking me to remember them.

Ach tha seo a 'ciallachadh "do not forget me". Tha mi ga iarraidh gu fuaim mar na buidheann de mo shinnsirean Gàidhlig tha ag iarraidh orm dhaibh an cuimhneachadh.

Beagan nas ealta ach b' urrainn dhut na leig air dìochuimhne sinn a ràdh cuideachd. Mar is àbhaist ann an saoghal nan cànan, tha iomadh dòigh ann air cù a mharbhadh.

A bit more fancy but you could also say na leig air dìochuimhne sinn. As usual, there's more than one way to skin a dog in language.
