I was wondering if anyone could assist me in tr*nsl*t*ng/converting a short story for a childs christening plaque. My friend is a Gaelic Language professor and has named his son in Gaelic. I am carving a plaque for him and am having trouble getting a good tr*nsl*t**n in Scots Gaelic as my Irish Gaelic is limited. Any assistance or reference is helpful, thanks in advance. Text/Story Below:

"Born of the great hill this warrior of the people could mold earth and rock to his will. He was as fair as the rising sun and radiated ageless wisdom."

The story is derived from meanings/namesakes of the childs three names and you get brownie points for guessing these correctly.

Heres what I have got so far:

Rugadh e às a 'chnoc mhòr. an gaisgeach seo de na daoine comasach air talamh agus creag a ghluasad chun a thoil. Bha e cho cothromach ri èirigh na grèine angus gathaich gliocas mór neo-thìmeil.

If nothing else it should give you a giggle.

Went with this in the end:

"Rugadh an gaisgeach seo o shlìochd an Dùin Mhóir. Sheasadh e airson maith nan daoine agus chaidh talamh is creag a dhealbhadh a rèir a thoil. Cho fionn ri èirigh na grèine, dhealraich a chuid ghliocas thar linntean."

Posting a question and expecting an answer in one to two days is unfortunately not realistic here. Wish it was, but....

Please bear in mind the majority of our members are learners, many still beginners, so not qualified to respond with the kind of accurate help you wanted.
We also recommend that if the Gaelic is needed for something permanent or important that you don't rely on unqualified learners on a forum to give you a final correct version - there are qualified folk out there who do that for their living and where you can be sure you are not carving any mistakes on your material (or skin). (It's worth supporting such people as it helps keep Gaelic speakers in work in their communities, and they don't usually charge much for short phrases etc.)

Having said that, we do like to discuss details and argue about grammar , so maybe in the long run your sentence would have stimulated some interesting discussion.

Sorry, I got completely snowed under and didn't even have time to check in. This community is small, and most are indeed learners who are not qualified to tr*nsl*t* such a challenging text. A professional service is a good idea for things like that - I expect you won't be handing off the carving job to an amateur either

It's not an active community, thanks to Facebook sucking everything up (Damn you, Zuckerberg!) -- I check in less than once a week these days. It hardly seems fair to call us "unhelpful" for not responding to something we didn't read.

Well, we have something that Facebook doesn't have: A search function that allows the users to find stuff.
