A Few Old Poems

Unread post by MikeS »

Hello all,

Just curious if these four poems/rhymes are still known in Gaelic speaking Scotland.

I'd be curious to know any traditions concerning them and also, I'm spelling in Gaelic, but they were given to me with out diacritics (accent marks); if anyone would be kind enough to supply the accents, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!!!

Dia dha mo chaim,
Dia dha mo chuairt,
Dia dha mo chainn,
Dia dha mo smuain.

Caimich mi a nocht
Eadar uir agus earc,
Eadar run do reachd,
Agus dearc mo dhoille.

A Righ na gile 's na greine,
A Righ nan reula runach,
Agad fein tha fios ar feuma,
A Dhe mheinnich nan dula.

Failt ort fein, a gheallach ur,
Ailleagan iuil nan neul!
Failt ort fein, a geallach ur,
Ailleagan cumh nan neamh!

Sorry - there was one more (thought there were five!)

It is:

Comnadh tri mo dhuil,
Comnadh tri mo run,
Comnadh tri mo shuil,
Agus mo ghlun gun chlaon,
Mo ghlun gun chlaon!

Sounds like the refrain of a longer song or something (?)

Thanks again!

There should be accents on ùr, dhùil, rùn and shùil. I'm sure there's more
