Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?
An robh thu a' draibheadh tron duthach, iolair? Cha robh mi ann an Nuadh Sasann o chionn fhada, ach tha teaghlach agam an-sin agus tha mi ag iarraidh dhol a-rithist. Tha e cho brèagha.
Tha mi ag obair aig an taigh-tasgaidh na iasgaich madainn an-diugh. Tha mi beagan tinn an-diugh mar sin tha mi ag iarriadh gabhaidh d' anail. 'S toil leam a bhith ag obair ri (?) Gàidhlig ann an gàrradh air làithean brèagha mar seo.
Did you drive through the countryside, iolair? I haven't been to New England for a long time, but I have family there and I want to go again. It is so beautiful. ... I am working at the fisheries museum this morning. I am a bit ill today so I want to rest. I like to work on Gaelic on the garden on lovely days like these.

A Mhairead,
Bha. Bidh sinn a' draibheadh timcheall air an sgìre cha mhòr gach deireadh seachdain. 'S abhaist dhuinn a bhith a' dèanamh tursan goirid (mu uair no dhà). 'S fior thoil leinn a bhith a' coimhead air na craobhan agus na cnocan agus a h-uile rud. Tha e glè bhrèagha an seo as t-samhradh.
Mairead,
Yes. We drive around the area almost every weekend. We usually take short trips (around an hour or two). We really like looking at the trees and the hills and everything. It is really beautiful here in the summer.

Glè mhath! Chan eil car againn, ach tha mi a' siubhail air a' bhus gu tric. Tha mi sgìth agus beagan tinn an-diugh, ach bidh mi nas fhearr a dh'aithghearr. Tha mi air bhioran oir tha fèille ealaine ann an Baile na Uaimhe. Tha i ainmeil! Tha mòran fèisean ann an-seo as t-samhradh.
Awesome! We don't have a car, but I often travel on the bus. I am tired and a little sick today, but I will be better soon. I am excited because there is a festival in Pittenweem. It is famous! There are many festivals here in the summer.

A Choempa,
A bheil thu a' seinn sa Ghàidhlig? Chan urrainn dhomhsa seinn idir!
Coempa,
Do you sing in Gaelic? I can't sing at all!

Not at all, I sing in a metal band. I don't even sing, I do harsh vocals.

A Choempa,
Mòran taing airson do fhreagairt! Tha sin glè inntinneach gi dearbh.
Ach chan eil mi eòlach air a' cheòl sna laithean seo gu mi-fhortanach.
Thanks for your answer! That is interesting indeed.
However I am not knowledgeable about current music unfortunately.

Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?
I can try to explain, but not in Gaelic.
We're a very heavy band and the type of music we play is often associated with violence and anger. Although the association is a little farfetched, it holds some truth.
My vocals are generally heavy, harsh vocals; grunted vocals. The technique produces a sound I can't quite explain.
In the choruses of some of our songs I do sing 'normally', or cleanly, which is what you're probably more used to.

Madainnn mhath a Choempa,
Tha thu ceart. Chan àbhaist dhomh a bhith ag èisteachd ri ceòl mar sin. Tha an mineachadh agad glè innntinneach, ge-tà!
Good morning,
You are correct. I don't usually listen to music like that. Your explanation is very interesting, however!

Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?
Tha mi aig an obair agam an_dràsta, ach tha mi a' beachdachadh air rud a leugh mi an-dè. Leugh mi sgeulachd anns an WHFP, agus dh'ionnsaich mi facal ùr, agus 's e sin "gànrachadh". Tha am facal a' ciallachadh "making dirty". Bha an t-ùghdar a' bruidhinn air stuth ceimigeach ann am biadh.
Tha mi toilichte a bhith ag ionnsachadh faclan ùra.
I am at work now, but I am thinking about something I read yesterday. I read a story in the WHFP, and I learned a new word, and that is "gànrachadh". The word means "making dirty". The author was talking about chemicals in food.
I am happy to be learning new words.

Bha mi a' leughadh Litir do Luchd-ionnsachaid sa mhadainn an-diugh. Dh'ionnsaich mi facal ùr: feòrag. Tha sin facal feumail dhomh, far a bheil mi a' fuireach, air sgath 's gu bheil am facal a' ciallachadh "squirrel" agus tha mòran de fheòrag ann timcheall air an taigh againne.
I was reading Litir do Luchd-ionnsachaidh this morning. I learned a new word: feòrag. That's a useful word for me, where I live, because the word means "squirrel" and there are a lot of squirrels around our house.

Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?
'S toil leam a bhith ag ionnsachadh faclan ùra cuideachd. Tha mi a' sgrìobhadh aiste mu an uiridh, bliadhna 'gap' agam. Tha mi ag ionnsachadh mòran faclan ùra anns am Faclair Beag. 'S toil leam feòragan. Chan eil mòran ann an-seo. Dè tha an facal prìomhach a tha agad sa' Ghàidhlig? (?)
Tha sinn a' seopadaireachd an-diugh, ach 's beag orm i. 'S toil leam a bhith còmhla ri mo theaghlach, ach cha toil leam a' seopadaireachd an aodaich. Uill, tha i deatamach... 's docha cha bhi i cho dona an-diugh.
I like learning new words too. I am writing a composition about last year, my gap year. I learn a lot of new words on Am Faclair Beag. I like squirrels. There are not many here. What is your favourite word in Gaelic? [not sure on that question formation] ... We are going shopping today, but I don't like it. I like being with my family, but I don't like clothes shopping. Well, it is necessary... maybe it won't be so bad today.
