I know that Gaelic classes are starting up again all over the world just now.
Classes in villages and cities, in Britain and Canada, in the USA and Australia.
And there are distance courses too, such as those run by SMO and the AGA.

If you are doing any courses at all, won't you tell us something about them on here, to encourage the others?

Beginners: 10:00am - 11.30

There is a Continuing Class, which is designed to cater for the more experienced learner or advanced speaker and that is on the same day, in the same place but
from 11:30 pm - 1:00pm. Continuing class 2 is from 1.00 - 2.30pm . Each lesson is a stand alone on a designated topic to make attendance flexible.

I have a friend doing this course, in addition to the SMO one:

Scottish Gaelic Society of Victoria

A Beginners Class and an Advanced Learner's Class are run simultaneously (in two separate class rooms) at the Celtic Club.
Anyone who is interested in studying Scottish Gaelic is welcome at the class at any time.

Venue : Celtic Club, cnr Latrobe & Queen Sts, Melbourne.

Time : Every Wednesday night during school term, from 6.30pm.

Cost : $55 per annum (includes membership of the Scottish Gaelic Society of Victoria).

We run improver (post beginner) and intermediate classes at the Glasgow Gaelic School.

The intermediate course runs continually apart from school holidays and people are welcome to drop in any time but the improvers class is more structured, commencing on the 1st of October and running for 10 weeks (missing the 15th of October when the school is closed for holidays).

Classes are on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm and cost £3 per week.

Tha mi a' leughadh Gàidhlig ann an Cill Rìmhinn. Tha clasaichean na h-oidhche ann. 'S e Hearach anns an tìdsear.

The Gaelic is offered through the Evening Language Programme at the University of St Andrews. It does not go towards any degree at St Andrews and is equally open to students, staff, and people totally unaffiliated with the university. The cost is £100 a semester. The class meets weekly on Thursday nights for 10 weeks each term. The beginners' first semester is from 7-8:30, but all the rest of the classes run for two hours. There are intermediate classes available that also sometimes double as the "advanced" classes. The teacher is a native speaker from Harris.

Comunn Eachdraidh Bheàrnaraigh is intending to restart its successful programme of Gaelic learners classes this autumn.

Funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the classes have previously run at three different proficiency levels – beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate. It is planned that a similar pattern would be repeated, depending on demand.

As such, Comunn Eachdraidh Bheàrnaraigh has opportunities for both tutors and students. Tutors will need to be self-employed and set-up to handle their own tax/NI affairs.

Classes will be run in The Nurse’s Cottage, Berneray, on a day and time to suit participants. It is envisaged that classes will run up until Easter 2015.

Gaelic Immersion Course

What’s happening?

Gàidhlig aig Baile Dùn Bheagain are running a two week Gaelic immersion course for members of the Dunvegan (and area) community wishing to start learning, or improve on, conversational Gaelic.

Throughout the course we will be speaking and understanding Gaelic through everyday activities, games and conversation in a ‘total immersion’ environment with a strong emphasis on the social Gaelic of the home.

A key aspect is that learners will remain in everyday contact after the course, supporting children in their Gaelic-medium education and taking opportunities to speak to native/fluent speakers in the language. We expect most participants will be parents/carers/relatives of children in Gaelic school/playgroup/nursery, who need to the vocabulary to talk and play in social Gaelic.

The remaining spaces on the course are very limited and sadly we will not be able to take on everyone who applies. However, in the longer-term, we envisage making similar support available for other groups in the Dunvegan area and communities elsewhere with similar needs.

How much is it?

The course has been awarded a grant from the Big Lottery Fund making it free to attend. For the sake of your own learning and that of the other participants’ we do require your full commitment to attend the whole course, 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday for the two weeks starting on the 9th November.

What about meals?

We’ll be providing snacks and lunches throughout the course and preparation of these will form part of the learning experience.

What about my kids?

Childcare has kindly been funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig and will be provided on site at Hamara Lodge. We are currently working out the logistics of getting the nursery and primary kids from Dunvegan to the Lodge each day.

When will I know whether I have got a place or not?

We will get in touch with everyone to let them know if their application was successful or not by the 9th October.

What happens if I don’t get a place on November’s course?

This is a pilot project and, if it goes well, we hope to build on it’s success and develop more residential learning opportunities in the future. If we are unable to take you on November’s course then we will keep your details and get in touch if future opportunities are possible.

I’m already a fluent Gaelic speaker. Can the course do anything for me?

Yes! We’re also keen to hear from any Gaelic speakers who would be interested in learning about the teaching techniques used in this immersion course with a view to becoming teachers of this method themselves in the future.

Hai a h-uile duine! We want to let you know about upcoming Scottish Gaelic language & song opportunities soon in the Seattle area. We also have clusters in the Portland** area & Bellingham area as well.

We have 4 levels which focus on Gaelic Language topics, building systematically via active language learning activities. If you are not in Seattle area, we have many who commute from out of town, as far as Bellingham & eastern Oregon, for our once monthly all-day sessions a little north of the University District in Seattle,the 1st Saturday of the month, Oct. - April.
