Donald Macleod (WHFP) agues well for Gaelic

Unread post by faoileag »

Unfortunately not linkable to (online ed. is subscription only), but worth a read if anyone has access to the current ed. of the West Highland Free Press. A for him very calm, factual and bluster-free presentation of the cogent facts to the anti-Gaelic brigade.

The trigger for his 'more in sorrow than in anger' article is the recent blown-up compaints about wasting (gulp) TWO THOUSAND POUNDS on the translations for Gaelic audio-guides in the Scottish Parliament.

Among various other points and arguments he offers examples of more wasteful expenditure, e.g. the sums lost to the Exchequer through GiftAid to fee-paying schools.

And I like this bit:
The Gaidheal's problem is that we've been here too long and people can't understand why we didn't die off with the dinosaurs. Let's not be over-hasty to oblige.
