Leabhraichean le Teipean?
Ciamar a tha sibh uile?
A bheil fios aig duine sam bith a bheil aon leabhar ann a tha a' tighinn le teip-fhuaime na rùd mar sin.
Does anybody know of any audio books in Gaelic, it would be very helpful for picking up vocabulary! Also, can anyone recommend some sites or publishers that specialise in Gaelic books, tapes etc.
Tapadh leibh!
p.s. feel free to correct any mistakes above!

Some examples:
http://www.akerbeltz.eu/books3g.html
https://lsh507.securepod.com/gaelicbook ... cts_id=104
https://lsh507.securepod.com/gaelicbook ... rg&x=0&y=0
If you search for "CD" at Comhairle nan leabhraichean, you get more. I haven't found an easy way to search for just audio books though.

Bha mi ag èisdeachd ciamar a bhios na beathaichean ag ràdh -- tha sin fìor sgoinneil!GunChleoc wrote:http://www.akerbeltz.eu/books3g.html
Ach tha mi duilich, oir a ghabh an cat an luchag bheag liath mu dheireadh a bha i ag ràdh: "Gìog, gìog!".

Fo Sgail a Swastika le Domhnall Iain MacDhomhnaill (Leabhar ann an Gaidhlig agus Beurla agus da CDn) S e leabhar gle inntinneach agus a bharrachd air an leabhar cluinneadh tu an sgriobhadair fhein air na CDn. Tha an sgeulachd gle mhath agus gle fheumail airson luchd ionnsachaidh
Under the Shadow of the Swastika by Donald Iain Macdonald (Book in Gaelic with English facing pages and 2 CDs ) It is a very interesting book and in addition to the book you hear the writer himself on the CDs. It is a very good story and very useful to learners

Seconded. It's to date the only book I've seen as a "parallel text" in Gaelic, letting you look at the English whenever you're uncertain about the Gaelic.Car Chugallach wrote:Under the Shadow of the Swastika by Donald Iain Macdonald (Book in Gaelic with English facing pages and 2 CDs ) It is a very interesting book and in addition to the book you hear the writer himself on the CDs. Not that I would recommend building a library of parallel texts anyway -- you only really need a few before you should be comfortable reading monolingual books, perhaps with the aid of a dictionary.
But Fo sgàil a' Swastika should be on any Gaelic learner's bookshelf. Parallel text plus audio CDs, and an insight into a side of WWII that's rarely talked about by other writers.

There is also Mas Math Mo Chuimhne, transcripts of conversations with various native speakers remembering their childhood and youth, following this "parallel" format, although admittedly the attached CD only has recordings of some parts of the book, I estimate a tenth or so of the printed text.Níall Beag wrote:It's to date the only book I've seen as a "parallel text" in Gaelic, letting you look at the English whenever you're uncertain about the Gaelic.

Tha Fasachadh An-Iochdmhor Ratharsair le Calum MacLeòid mar seo cuideachd ged nach eil CD leis.
S'e leabhar glé mhath agus glé inntinneach a tha ann an leabhar seo. Tha Gàidhlig agus Beurla aghaidh ri aghaidh air na duilleagan agus tha a' chainnt gu math soilléir agus an sgeul glé inntinneach. Tha an sgeulachd ag innse do na leughadair mu àm na fuadaichean agus àmannan eile cruadail os déidh seo ann an eilean Ratharsair.
Bha an sgriobhadair de'n leabhar seo an duine ainmeil a thog Calum's Road ann an eilean Ratharsair.
The Cruel Clearance of Raasay is another book like this tough it does not come with a CD.
It is a very good, very interesting book. It has Gaelic and English facing pages and has good clear language and a very interesting story. The story tells us about the clearances of Raasay and the grave hard times wich followed.
The writer of the book, Calum MacLeod is the man who is famous in Scotland for building Calum's road, 3,000 yards of vehicle road built by hand over 14 years! An achievement that the Finn would be proud of!

Re: Leabhraichean le Teipean?
For new beginners, there is this online, animated e-book that presents the text in English and Gaelic, with audio: An Gàradh aig Sìne, Pretty nicely done.
These Gaelic versions of Beatrix Potter's stories aren't bilingual but there's a CD available for them (note the CD includes readings of 5 of the 6 books listed there). They are pretty accessible for beginners, plus the Engish versions are easy to find.
And has anyone mentioned An Litir Bheag? For beginner to early intermediate learners. Free, accessible, with bilingual text and covers lots of topics and vocabulary. not exactly audiobooks, per say, but hey, they're free.
The Guthan na Eilean videos and downloadable text are very good for picking up new vocabulary and for listening practice.
If one's looking for parallel Gaelic-English books specifically, there are couple of collections of transcribed and translated Cape Breton stories, Tales to Dawn/Sgeul gu Latha and The Blue Mountains/Na Beanntaichean Gorma that are available from Sìol Enterprises in Canada (you might be able to find them through other sellers). Note that there's a Gaelic-only abridged edition of Sgeul gu Latha that's much cheaper out there--it will not have all the stories nor the English tr*nsl*t**n that the original has. Also these were transcribed from recordings of an older generation of native speakers, and contains a lot of idiomatic Gaelic that can be pretty confusing to beginners, so consider that before shelling out the money for it. Also, lots of stories about Boban Saor. You get to know Boban pretty well from these books. (Do they have Boban Saor tales in Scotland or is it just a Cape Breton thing? I honestly don't know.)
