Hi guys, It was very sad to hear the news about the death of the last Leinster native Irish speaker. There's still a small Gaeltacht left in Rath Cairn(County Meath)Leinster, albeit the people that live there are native Connact Irish speakers. The Meath Gaeltacht is the smallest Gaeltacht area and c...

Hi Gaeilge Abú Conas atá tú a chara? :D I agree with you totally. There's a huge similarity between both languages, similar to the relationship between Dutch and Afrikaans. As you probably know already, Seachtain na Gaeilge releases a CD every year with a load of songs(in Irish) from contemporary mu...

Online Gaidhlig-Gaeilge Youth Music Radio Station?

I just had a brilliant idea. :D A new youth chart music radio station broadcasting entirely in Irish is up and running and is doing quite well. Check it out! http://www.raidiox.com/ (Click on "Éist" button) Wouldn't it be great if there was a radio station online, 50% of the broadcasting s...

Dia dhuit, a Ghaeilgeoir. Conas atá tú? Gabhaidh mo leisgeul, a h-uile duine, ach tha mi a' sgriobhadh 'sa Bheurla cuideachd... First off, it's indisputable that Irish is in a much healthier position than Scottish Gaelic is at the moment. Whereas 30 years ago, there was doubt about whether Irish wo...

Maith thú a Sheonaidh ! :) Aontaím leat ! - I agree with ya It's strange to think that only 1% of the Irish population is Irish native speakers, the same as the number of Gaidhlig speakers however another 350,000 Irish people can speak Irish fluently both North and South of the border and up to almo...

Thank you all for your help! Turns out, disappointingly, that it was supposed to be Dutch though it was so poorly pronounced that not even the native speakers could recognize it as their mothertongue! Translates into "friday, neighbourhood park, no cameras". Yeh so I got it right. I knew ...

I would say Swedish.

I heard the word "Vrijdag"(Friday)

and the verb "parkeren" (to park)

Hoi Polloi & Modern Irish language music

Is cuimhin liom go maith an grúpa Gaelic Rock "Hoi Polloi" ón Alban. Féach ar an naisc seo thíos: http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=4RSgPlRv4qk (Hoi Polloi) Na blianta i ndiaidh "Hoi Polloi", tá grúpaí Éireannacha ag déanamh amhlaidh  http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=Fspft1348-E&am...

What does the Future hold for Gaeilge and Gaidhlig?

:D Dia Dhaoibh! Ba mhaith liom ceist a chur oraibh. Céard a cheapann sibh faoi todchaí an Ghaeilge agus an Ghaidhlig? An ndéantar iarracht maith chun tionsnaimh idir an dá réigiúnacha teangacha a chur faoi lán seol agus a fhorbairt? Tá a fhios agam go bhfuil Iomairt Cholm Chille ann. Ach an ndéanann...
