Impersonal (or something equivalent) with structures that use prepositional pronouns
So… Tha mi a' dèanamh sin --> Thathar a' dèanamh sin Ceart gu leòr. Ach dè mu dheidhinn… Tha fios aca --> ? Tha eagal orra --> ? [msaa] An canadh tu dìreach "Tha fios ann" ? edit: Actually this is obviously dealing with an indirect object rather than subject in Gaelic. So I'm reckoning &qu...

Bhitheadhte?
22969 Tha an t-eisimplir sin bhon mhìneachadh Modal 4 comhradh 2. Obh obh, tha seo na bùrach! 22970 No, that's kosher. At least linguistically, can't speak for marking, there's a lot of marking done which is on shaky linguistic ground. Anyway, it depends on the emphaticness (emphaticicity? emphe?) ...

Bhidheadhte?
22967 Am biodh sibh ag obair a h-uile Lunain? Cha bhitheadh. Cha bhiomaid ag obair a h-uile oidhche Lunain idir. Cuin a bhidheadh sibh ag obair ma-tha? I'd maybe be careful about switching between emphatic/regular forms in the one answer there, thinking in terms of SMO marking. I've a feeling they'...

22958 But they didn't say anything about the impersonal conditional. Thuirt, ann an dòigh co-dhiù. Seall air an t-seantans dìreach ron eisimpleir a chur thu: When answering a question formed with a bheilear (or one of the impersonal verbs in the other tenses) , you respond with tha or chan eil ( or...

That over-worked "a"
From first link above: "Over time, it's conceivable that the pattern of the third person masculine possessive pronoun has resulted in creating some sort of generalized infinitive-like pattern" […] "But, overall, it makes no difference because one just has to learn these patterns the w...

That over-worked "a"
As a follow-up then is there any "meaning" to the "a" in "cuin a" etc? Missed this, sorry. That 'a' is the relative particle marking a relative clause, which is followed by the independent form of the verb (or relative future in the future tense), e.g. Bha mi ag iarria...

I don't think it's either — Akerbeltz calls it " the infinitive particle ". (see also ) As far as I understand all this anyway, that's not to say there's an infinitive per se in Gaelic but that this particle creates an 'infinitive like construction' (i.e. something which corresponds to the...

A bheil mi ceart a' smaoineachadh, m.e., gur e "Tha mi dìreach air mo dhinnear ithe" a bhiodh dòigh nas nàdarra (no nadarra co-dhiù) airson "I've just (now) eaten my dinner" a ràdh na ruideigin mar "[Cha do] dh'ithe mi mo dhinnear [ach o chionn ghoirid]" ? Tha mise co-d...

22770 dìreach air tighinn a-steach Chan eil thu ag ràdh gu bheil rudeigin ceàrr le "dìreach air", a bheil? 22769 When I asked for assistance elsewhere, there was a lot of argument, but I no-one seemed to understood the reference. I'm hoping someone here does understand what I'm trying to ...

Tòraidhean / Conservatives
Chan eil fhios a'm, tha mi a' creid gur e siud dìreach am facal Gàidhlig 'ceart' air "conservative" sa cho-theacsa seo, seach eadar-thangachadh litearail (a' cuimhneachadh gur ann à Meadhan-Ghàidhlig a thàinig am facal "Toraidh" anns a' chiad dol a-mach) ? I don't know, I suppose...

Chan eil mi dha-rìribh a' tuigsinn na tha thu airson, ach ’s e "Pàrtaidh Tòraidheach" an t-ainm oifigeil air 'The Conservative Party' sa Ghàidhlig, seach ann am Beurla, ma fhreagras siud an ceist agad. I don't really understand what you're after, but "The Tory Party (Pàrtaidh Tòraidhe...

Difference between "Mo [word]" and "an [word] agam"?
22538 Apologies for diverging here... What's the difference between mas e ur toil e and mas e do thoil e ? They're essentially the same thing, except the first ('ur') is equivalent to using 'sibh' (polite or plural 2nd person) and the second ('do' + lenition) is equivalent to 'thu'. Akerbeltz is pr...

Words ending in 'ir' - do they have a 'd' sound?
That's a 'slender R' (because of the preceding slender vowel [e + i]), which has a bit of variation in how it is pronounced. Commonly it's pronounced something sort-of-like (but not) the 'th' sound in English. See the link below for more. http://www.foramnagaidhlig.net/foram/viewtopic.php?t=2497 I'd...
