Many thanks for this - after I posted it, it struck me that the leading vowel in Anndra could be the reason and your answer confirms that, but my simple mind thought that t- or similar may have been planted there to allow the "a" to be used as standard. Obviously not! Something else for me to rememb...

As a newbie, something is confusing me here. Using Duolingo to learn Gaelic (as well as my father's books!) why is it Madhainn mhath A charaid (my capital A) but Madhainn mhath Anndra (no a)? English ascend and descend in gaelic
Can anyone please point me in the right pronunciation direction for Dhirich and Teirinn (ascend and descend) and tapadh and tapaidh (clever and clever !)

Thanks to both respondees - something to work with here. I must admit that I had completely forgotten about the Faclair Beag dictionary - it is a mine of information And as for Ol for "drink" - it was on my original list but I preferred the 2-syllable "uisgea" Again - any thanks for your assistance....
