Feasgar Mhath!

Fàilte! Thuirt thu "b' fhearr leam ceartachadh", so... Chan eil fhios a'm mas aithne dhut "inverted nominals" ach tha "airson Gàidhlig a bhruidhinn" nas fhearr. Tha barrachd fiosrachaidh an seo: https://www.academia.edu/2488427/Scottish_Gaelic_2nd_Edition_ td. 72. Tha t...

pronunciation of -rC clusters

Thank you both for your replies.
I apologize for being insufficiently clear, what I meant to say is how do dialects with r-dropping handle pairs like bòrd and bòird? If the r in bùirn were dropped bòird would either merge with bòrd or bòid.

pronunciation of -rC clusters

Tha mi air a bhith glè thrang mo “Bhlas na Gàidhlig” agus “Gàidhlig Uidhist a Deas.” A dh’aindeoin, tha duilgheadas mòr fhathast a'm gu “consonant clusters” -rC, gu sònraichte R + fuaim chaol. Tha an chiad leabhar ag ràdh gu bheil dualchainntean ann aig a bheil fuaimean “retroflex” an àite [R] ann a...

Ciamar a tha an t-sìde / How's the weather?

Sa Siatal tha e uabhasach fuar ... ach co-dhiù chan eil uisge ann! Canaidh sinn sin a h-uile latha gun uisge ann. (An e sin a' Ghàidhlig air 'at least it's not raining'?)

In Seattle it's terribly cold... but at least it's not raining! We say that every day without rain.

Dative or prepositional case

There's a reference grammar available as a (free!) pdf download here: https://www.academia.edu/2488427/Scottish_Gaelic_2nd_Edition_ Akerbeltz (both the website and his book, Blas na Gàidhlig), taic, and Scottish Gaelic in 12 Weeks are also resources that I can endorse. The simplest way to say "...

Realtime Chat

A Thom,

Chan eil Gàidhlig na h-Èireann agam, ach biodh toigh leam bhruidhinn ri luchd-ionnsachaidh eile anns a' Ghàidhlig Albannach.

Tha mi a' fuireach anns na Stàitean Aonichte, ach is oileanach a' tha annam agus bidh làithean-saora Nollaig agam... abair rium ma tha ùidh agad!
