"Courtesy of"
Nam bithinn a' cur ìomhaigh ann an iris, bhithinn a' cur "credit" làmh ris. Ruideigin mar "picture courtesy of ..".
Ciamar a bu chòir dhomh cantainn "courtesy of " anns a' Ghàidhlig?

"Cha deachaidh" and "cha deach". Do they mean exactly the same thing?
Bha mi a' smaoineachadh gun thuig mi a h-uile càil mu dheidhinn "irregular verbs" ach chuala mi facal air Beag air Bheag o chionn ghoirid a cha dh'aithnich mi - "deachaidh". Bha seo an co-theacsa - "Cha deachaidh aona taigh a thogail an uair sin gus an deachaidh an cogadh se...

Omission of the definite article before a role or title
Rats. Something about my version of "milkman" was niggling and I thought I'd snuck a swift edit in before anybody noticed. But you were too quick for me! I take your point about English optionally declining the option of preceding a genitive chain (I'm carefully avoiding my incorrect use o...

Omission of the definite article before a role or title
Mòran taing, a h-uile duine. Light dawns! This is a big point and I'd completely missed it. To answer faoileag first. My example was one I'd made up myself, based on something akin to "Comhairle Ghlaschu", that I'd changed on a whim. I didn't realise when I switched to myn adjectival phras...

Omission of the definite article before a role or title
Where a Sassanach annoyed by his local council might say something like: "That object of shame, the Parish Council, has failed once again". It seems that a Gàidheal would say: "Tha a' chuis nàire ud, Comhairle Ionadail, air fàilleachadh a-rithist". See? The Gàidheal while exasper...

Where does the "would" in "bu toil leam" come from?
Tha "bu toil leam" a' ciallachadh "I would like" ann an Gaidhlig nuadh.
'S e "past tense" de "is" a th' ann an "bu", nach eil? Ach tha sinn ag iarraidh "would" an-seo. Dè tha dol ma-tha? A bheil fios aig duine sam bith?

Leniting prepositions and compound nouns
When a close-compound noun like muilinn-gaoithe is preceded by a leniting preposiion like "do", which bit gets lenited - muilinn or gaoithe? I'm guessing muilinn because I've just seen "na bhall-parlamaid" in respect of a male member of parliament.
