Others will hopefully answer that, but just to mention, for “knowing someone” (as opposed to knowing something) I learnt: is + aithne + do + (knower) + (NOMINATIVE person known) is aithne dhomh Màiri (I know Mary) is aithne dha mise (He knows me) B’aithne dhuinn na ballaich We used to know the lads....

My copy of Robertson's Teach Yourself Gaelic Dictionary is falling apart too! Wish they would publish it in an edition suitable for a learner's dictionary! Those verb tables at the back are gold.

Tapadh leat! To replace "carson" I also found many examples in DASG whereby, if there was an antecedent, "airson" + "an/am" + verb was used.

airson s' in indirect questions
Could someone please give me some examples of "airson s'" used to replace "carson" in indirect/reported questions? I understand how the others work, e.g. "Cait' a bheil Màiri?" -> "Chan eil fhios aig a h-uile duine far am bheil Màiri."
