Re: Hàlo, 's mise Mairead!

It would be "seaplain oilthigh(e)" then. The example is probably not great because "oilthigh" in colloquial speech doesn't have a visible/audible genitive (it actually does, it would be "oilthighe", but most people don't use that).

Re: Hàlo, 's mise Mairead!

Can you also please clarify about (GunChleoc's correction) the double use of "ann"? In that sentence I thought the first ann was part of the construction "there are" and the anns was for "in my class". While I was reading the correction, that was exactly my thought tha...

Re: Hàlo, 's mise Mairead!

The thing with the genitive was clumsily explained above, I think. Another way to explain it is this: A noun can be indefinite, i.e. unspecified: seaplain = a chaplain (just any old chaplain, not specified at all). Some languages, like English, mark indefinite / unspecified nouns by a so-called inde...

Re: OK, Enough dawdling... time to get back to work...

I've been at that point several times with several of my languages. The only way to solve it is to do something , little things, and slowly work your way forward. It is no use dreaming of things that cannot be, you have to make do with the resources you have at hand. Try to listen to Gaelic as often...

Fàilte chridheil ort an seo, a Mhairead! Tha deagh Ghàidhlig agad mar-tha. A bheil thu fhèin ag obair ann an Ànstruthair no Cill Rimhinn cuideachd, no a bheil thu a' dol dhan sgoil? Re: BBC Naidheachdan

cola-deugh = dà sheachdain

(Chan eil mi cinnteach an robh thu a' tuigsinn sin mar-tha.)

Tha e a' tighinn bho "còig latha deug" (15) oir tha dà sheachdain air a dhol seachad nuair a tha an còigeamh latha deug ann :)

Knitting terms

A bheil figheadairean an-seo? Are there any knitters here? ;) I'm interested in Gaelic knitting terms, you know, all the stuff about stitches, binding off, cables, gauges, etc. (I hardly know them in English, I've learned knitting from a German-speaking mother and a Yiddish-speaking aunt  ) Mona

’S e deagh choinneamh a bh’ ann. Bha feadhainn den bheachd gum bu chòir don leithid coimhearsnachd ùr a bhith taobh a steach Baile mòr Inbhir Nis (à la Shaw’s Rd Beal Feirste m.e.). A bheil thu a' ciallachadh Falls Road, far a bheil Culturlann, an ionad Gaeilge le bùth leabhraichean etc.? Bha mi-fh...

Leabhar ùr: cur-air-bhog ann an Dùn Èideann + Inbhir Nis

Thèid leabhar sgeulachdan goirid (sgrìobhte le 21 daoine eadar-dhealaichte) air foillseachadh le Ùr-Sgeul a dh' aithghearr, agus bidh dà thachartas ann: - Di-Haoine 5mh an Dùbhlachd ann an Dùn Èideann (faicibh an seo http://www.ur-sgeul.com/ no an seo http://www.duneideann.net/Cultar.html ) - Di-Hao...
