Re: Words or names?

The spelling mistakes were not mine. I copied the names from this Glasgow University Thesis .. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/4391/2/1999WalshPhD2.pdf. I now have the correct translations. Creag apparently meant quarry on Easdale and some words are English words with gaelic spellings like clear/chlear. Cre...

Words or names?

I'm looking at the quarries on Easedale Island and trying to understand the names a bit more without just looking up the answer. I think some might be place names but I'm a bit stuck. Can anybody help? It's just for interest as I am visiting. Quarry Name (tr*nslation) (pronunciation) Craig na h-uamh...

Identifying sounds from text

I cannot find where I saw this particular post but I thought it was on here. I am looking for somewhere that explains how certain words/letters are pronounced. I would like to be able to have a decent crack at pronouncing some of the gàidhlig road signs later in the year.

Tha i glè fuar agus dorcha a-muigh.

It is very cold and dark outside.

*Edited as spell checker had 'corrected' it

Dog commands

I have looked up the individual words in the gaelic dictionary for dog commands but sometimes there is more than one option given. Does anybody have a dog who could give me the basic commands used e.g. sit, wait, stay etc. Especially ' get off '. One of my dogs thinks he's called this 😁

Re: Ciamar a tha an t-sìde / How's the weather?

Thanks. Here it is again. I copied this from a gaelic dictionary but typed it wrong.

Tha i fliuch an-diugh, a-rithist.
It is wet today, again.

I will have a look for a spell checker as I don't think that one works with Chrome.

Latest Posts

I have found this now but I can't delete the post. It's in the Quick Links above Clàr-innse. Should have gone to specsavers.

Is there a way of bringing up a list of the latest posts instead of having to go into all the forums?

Knowing what you know now

Knowing what you do now what would be your preferred route to learning Gaelic. What worked, what didn't and what would you have done differently.

Re: Starting simple

Just checking. I have cèile as the word for husband/partner, that's not a name. Is this still correct?
