Re: Caol ri caol agus leathann ri leathann?

Slender and broad? Are these the reason for the excessive number of unused letters in gaidhlig sentences? And can someone tell me what they are an how they work please? Slender and broad all starts with vowels. E and I are "slender", because when you say them there's only a small gap betw...

You can't map the sounds of any one language onto another and be expected to be understood unfortunately. I recommend that if you're really interested in learning Gaelic, you invest some time in learning the right sounds and how to put them together. I realise I probably sound harsh but I don't mea...

Ay, right enough. You could say "I am right", e.g. "Tha mi ceart". I think the possible confusion about what can be done with "tha" etc. is probably something like this: if you want to say "I am a student", then you cannot really say "Tha mi oileanach&qu...

In any such endeavour you need to focus on key bits, since our resources are limited. That includes teachers. So rolling out GME or classes across schools in Scotland is a) not doable and b) probably not desirable. You don't just need quantity you also need quality. Think of your average school-lea...

Very true my friend, but gaìdhlig isn't a very popular language these days, certainly not amongst english immigrants and people like these, its viewed as old-fashioned and stupid. These dudes seem to believe that having gaìdhlig on signs is silly because they seem to think it is extinct. These are b...

Its a shame really, but if the government don't get stuck in and make it compulsory at schools and give it adequate support there really wont be a gaidhlig to speak of in the next 200 years.

Samuel is sometimes equated with Somhairle but it is just a similarity of appearance. Somhairle is from Old Norse Somarlidi or Sumarliði - Summer traveller , which was a euphemism for Viking. It is written Sorley in English, and this roughly gives the Gàidhlig pronunciation. Somhairle Mac 'illeatha...

It would be pointless to try and say any more than that lol, i only know random sentences and words anyway and i'll most likely never be able to learn it anyway :P, i'm just a poor 13 year old :(, and i know nobody who speaks Gàidhlig in real life anyway.
