Re: Comparative Verb Clauses

Awesome! Also, Akerbeltz, I'm having trouble parsing that last example. "I heard this as often as I don't like him more"?

Also, what if I wanted to say something like "I don't have as much as you."?

Comparative Verb Clauses

Okay, so I would like to know how to say something like: "I don't run as often as I would like"
where there is a verb clause involving "is".

Would it be "Cha bhi mi a' ruith cho tric ris bu toil leam?"

I haven't really run across many constructions like this so I'm pretty stumped.

Tapadh leibh!

Re: Body Parts in the Genitive?

Oh dear, that's embarassing >.> I really am stumped then. What am I missing? Is it just spelling conventions? What's with the slenderization? Do enlighten me :D

Body Parts in the Genitive?

Hi! So recently I've been working through Speaking Our Language using Anki to reinforce the vocabulary, and I've gotten to the lesson about body parts. One thing I'm curious about is that they always seem to put the words for neck/throat and knee in the genitive case even though grammatically speaki...

Re: Ciamar a tha an t-sìde / How's the weather?

Tha sinne dìreach bog fliuch an seo. Bha an t-uisge ann airson trì laithean, agus bidh e ann a-rithist airson còig latha tuilleadh às deidh Dihaoine! Tha e dìreach grod. 'S lugha ormsa an t-uisge!!! We are just soaking wet here (Iowa, USA.) It rained for three days, and it's going to again for five ...

Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?

An-dràsta tha mi ag obair air an coimpiutair agam a' dèanamh càirtean-ionnsachaidh airson a' phrogram Speaking Our Language. Tha mi an dòchas gun cuidichidh sin mi m' fhaclairean a cuimhneachadh! A-màireach, (uill an-diugh, tha i ceithir uairean sa mhadainn :P) tha mise agus an teaghlach agam a' dol...

Duolingo Gaelic?

I recently started using Duolingo to brush up on my Spanish, and to prepare for elementary French classes in the fall, and I was wondering if any of the more advanced speakers here had ever considered contributing to a possible Duolingo course on Scottish Gaelic? The thing I like about DL is the fac...

faclan eadar-lìn

Hi :) So recently I was discussing my Gaelic with some of my friends, and one of the things that came up was terms and translations for internet slang in Gaelic. I'm sure this is showing my youth, but I'm referring to things like "lol" "shipping" (from relationship, to wish two people to start datin...

Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?

Tha i anmoch, agus chan eil urrainn dhomh a chaidil, mar sin bha mi a' smaointinn gum bidh mi a' cleachdadh a' Ghàidhlig agam. Chan eil mi ag ràdh ro math fhathast, ach tha mi a' tighinn air adhart, pìos gu pìos. It's late, and I can't sleep, so (I don't know how to say so, in this sense) I was thin...

I'm curious

I got to thinking in the car today, why do people say "an t-ainm a th' orm" as opposed to "m' ainm, d' ainm, etc." ? Why is it Dè an t-ainm a th' ort instead of Dè d' ainm? Would that be incorrect grammatically speaking? Or is it just that no one says that, so it would be weird if you did? I have no...

sìon vs. dad

Hey all,

I'm a bit confused as to which "anything" I should use when. Sìon or Dad? Does it depend on tense? Mood? Or is it just personal preference?

Tapadh leibh!
