Faclair Beag

not sure where else to post this but I don't know whether to trouble shoot my network or what but through my laptop and desktop I can't get access to sound resources on the sight. Is it down for anyone else, or is there something I need to look at???

Re: S...Skype... and embarrassing myself

Guys thanks, sorry for the late reply. I'm trying for a promotion, saving to come back home for 2 weeks, flights finally booked AND moving to Seattle at the time same, it's been crazy. I'm not much of a conversationalist but learning quick and not giving up, finally at a stage where I can read most ...

S...Skype... and embarrassing myself

Hi, I haven't been on the site in some time, I don't even remember what my last post was, and for those of you who know me you know I have no formal training in the language but I try. For a long time I've really wanted someone to talk to over Skype, not necessarily about Gaelic subject all the time...

Adverbs and word order

I figure this is probably an expressive and dynamic subject but are there some general do's and don'ts as far as adverb word order goes? Basically I've seen them used where they are in the place I'd expect them to be from being an English speaker, and then I see them a few words over in places I wou...

Re: Learning vocab, system? Is there one?

AH! thanks guys, all the spelling mistakes with accents and graves were completely intentional , I know that's how they're all spelled, I was being lazy and it was really late. Few spelling mistakes and mixups weren't. I'm trying to transition into a new job and with all the work I just went for it....

Re: Learning vocab, system? Is there one?

I understand I want to start doing that stuff, there is just sooooo much I still don't know. And vocab is a big part of it's at the point where I'm pretty sure I know how something would be expressed grammatically but then don't know the words to say it! I'm really trying.

Learning vocab, system? Is there one?

So, is there? Whats the best way to tackle learning vocab i.e. words per day, flash cards, all the forms that pop up. I mean is it best to have a ridged systematic approach Nom M/F? Dat M/F? Plu M/F? Imperative Plu Past Future Conditional Relative Future Gen With all the Qu, Neg, Neg Qu and lenition...

Parts of speech

What are some of the common parts of speech that I'd encounter on an everyday dictionary search? I know the basic ones and the obvious ones from English but the way Gaelic is set up with suffixes and vowel change, genitive case and so on. I see certain part of speech or at least things that look lik...

Re: My next leap forward (Clauses)

(To be honest, I think you should stay well away from TAIC Unit 19 till you've mastered the easier stuff. It's material for weeks and weeks of teachingf / learning, and very confusing.) REPORTED SPEECH: The decision to use 'is' or 'tha / bheil' has NOTHING to do with the introductory words like 'I ...

Re: My next leap forward (Clauses)

Ok... So the sentence Tha e ag ràdh gu bheil e fuar. Is correct? (1) you mostly get at the start of a sentence. Stuff like tha, 's e, buailidh... (2) can crop up anywhere really, sometimes at the start of a sentence or sometimes in the middle. The point about (2) is that there's always something in ...

Re: My next leap forward (Clauses)

So on that note before we go any further what is the difference between Tha mi ag ràdh gur ise mo mhàthair vs Tha mi ag ràdh gu bheil i mo mhàthair Why is the assertive even needed if it's not doing anything. I mean this is the tip of the iceberg, there a lot from this lesson that I don't quite get ...

Re: My next leap forward (Clauses)

I'm aware of it having being used to draw a nuance of emphasis towards a certain part of a sentence. An assertion is usually doubtless, and used comparatively. So Gaelic uses a form of the verb 'to be' to assert whatever the subject is? So if I were to say in English I am a sailor I am a sailor I am...
