Re: 'Let it Go' in Gaelic

Tapadh leat, a Sheonaidh. I watched several different translations of the song in other languages and many of them do a variation on "I'm free" instead of "let it go", so I went with "Tha mi saor". This is what I came up with for the first verse: Tha an sneachd a' luisneachadh geal air a' bheinn; ch...

I've just finished the first draft and there are a couple lines I wasn't sure about, so I want to post those here to ask if they are correct. Tha an sneachd a' luisneachadh ...

Am bheil an obair agad anns an t-ospadal doirbh? Cha b'urrainn dhomh a bhith ag obair ann an ospadal. Tha teirm agam crìochnaichte! Thèid mi agus mo chàraidean a Dhùn Eideann a-màireach. 'S toil leam Dùn Eideann gu mòr. Is your work in the hospital difficult? I couldn't work in a hospital. ... My te...

Re: Ceist

Do you think the usage of "a bhith" varies a lot regionally? My teacher (Harris) used it a lot, but I don't know if that was because she naturally would or because she thought that it was a good beginners' construction.

Obh, glè mhath! :) Tha mi a' leughadh eachdraidh mheadhan-aoiseil agus àrc-eòlas aig Oilthigh Chill Rìmhinn. Cha robh mi anns a' Ghlaschu fhathast. Tha mi ag ath-sgrùdadh an-dràsda oir tha dà deuchainnean agam Di-màirt. Am bheil deuchainnean agad a dh'aithghearr? Oh, very nice! I am studying medieva...

Forth Etymology

Does anyone know the etymology of the "Forth" in Firth of Forth? I know how the "firth" part comes in, but I'm having trouble tracking down the etymology of "forth". The Gaelic Wikipedia page for the Firth of Forth lists its Gaelic names as Abhainn Dubh and Uisge Foir(the). It seems like the latter ...
