Caraid canain

22498 SMO also offer short courses for Irish speakers - it's easier not having to go through English. Thachair mi air feadhainn na h-Èireannaich a bha a' dèanamh a' chùrsa goirid sin as t-samhradh seo chaidh. Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gun do chòrd e riutha agus gun do rinn iad glè mhath anns an tìde ...

I think you're trying to link an image from inside your gmail — that won't work. You'll have to download it and rehost it publicly.

Download it, upoad it to Imgur than paste the BBCODE link.

Please - Gàidhlig help wanted for scholarship application talk

22401 Are the members of the panel linked to Scots and/or Gaelic professionally? If not, they might not appreciate it. I probably wouldn't bother, if I was you.... That's a wee bit cynical imo. Even if they don't understand a word of it, I'm sure they would still appreciate it as an opener. I'd be ...

Ceistean

I'm a learner, but for what it's worth my native speaker teacher teaches it as Sìle and Faoileag have it, so that's what I go with. e.g. Q: Am biodh tu a' dol? A: Bhiodh. Bhithinn a' dol. That makes sense to me anyway, since bhithinn incorporates the pronoun. edit: GnG (p.115), SG12W (p.137) and Gae...

My hovercraft is full of eels

22369 22367 LOL so this was my tr*nsl*t**n, and not the one I found :) tapadh leibh :) Note the H that GunCleoc added though. Oh thanks for pointing that out. I missed that initially. The reason for that (worth pointing out for anyone else even if you already know) is that 'mo' ('my') lenites the f...

How to parse these sentences for inversion (or not)

I'm comfortable with the principle of inversion, what I'm wondering about is how to parse certain sentences to apply the rules. Who wants to tell the story to the boy? To me this looks like 'tell' has both a direct object (the story) and an indirect object in a prepositional phrase (the boys). I tak...

BBC Alba An La Script

I think it's: Tha ochd ùirean, seo dhuibh prìomh naidheachdan an là. It's 8 o' clock, these are today's top stories. (lit. these for you are the top news items of the day) Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that would make sense. I had to listen to another example to get that though, ...

Definite Artlcle: Good Resource or Chart?

The back pages of the 'Essential Gaelic' dictionary have them presented in the most intuitive fashion imo (exactly the hierarchy you have them listed). Other views of them would probably be useful in certain contexts but for an overall understanding I think that's the way. edit: like this guy's done...

Shin sibh!

Hi a Ghille, tha mi a' smaoineachadh gun robh mi a' tweeteadh riut mu dheidhinn luchd-ionnsachaidh Gàidhlig beagan mionaidean air ais.

Tha an àite seo beagan sàmhach, biodh e math nam biodh barrachd daoine ga chleachdadh.

Taing a GhunChleoc, tha mi air a bhith a' cleachadh. Thanks GunChleoc, I've been practising. gum bu toil leibh èisteachd mu dheidhinn Carson nach eil sin inverted? Ma tha "bu toil leam sin a dhènamh" ceart, carson nach eil "bu toil leibh mu dheidhinn a dh'èisteachd"? A bheil e a chionn ’s e preposit...

22238 Tha cùrsa ùr air RnG ann - Beag air Bheag. Tha mi ag iarraidh ag èisteachd ris, ach chan fhaod mi a faighinn sreath 1. ’S fìor thoil leam Beag air Bheag. Chan eil sreath a h-aon ann sa iPlayer no iTunes gu mì-fhortanach, ach tha torr eapasodan ann fhathast. Chan e cùrsa a th' ann, chan eil ag...

"Naidheachdan 11:00m" - Short daily news bulletin with transcription.

This might have been mentioned before but thought it was worth highlighting. On the Alba section of the BBC News website , they post a short 2m audio bulletin of the main stories every weekday with the script underneath. The newsreader sometimes deviates a little but it's usually as spoken. It's cal...

Tha mi air a bhith a' cur puist-d do duine an là uile, ach tha duil agam nach leugh duine dè a sgrìobh mi mar is àbhaist. Faighnichidh mi ceist, ach cuiridh iad air ais freagradh mu dheidhinn rudeigin eile. Tha e mar a bhith a' bruidhinn ri each na chadal . Bidh mi nas toilichte nuair a bhios mi dei...
