Tha mi duilich, Eilidh! Georgia anns na Stàitean Aonaichte. Coca-Cola, Martin Luther King, Jr., Dukes of Hazzard, Paula Deen, Alan Jackson...that Georgia! :priob:

(Although I know someone who spent some time in the other Georgia...sounds like a very interesting place. :) )

Re: Here's some incentive to learn Gàidhlig! ;-)

I was listening ;) Derek's a lot of fun to listen to. I was teasing him about his attempt at an accent :) Meal do naidheachd gu dearbh! Tapadh leat...so yours is the other name he was saying over and over! :priob: And he did a pretty good job with the accent...better than him trying to spell Missis...

Here's some incentive to learn Gàidhlig! ;-)

Write in to a DJ on Radio nan Gàidheal, and have him mention you on the radio. Then wonder what in the world he said about you! :P He was obviously excited, though, about having listeners in M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I! :priob: I got ONE word of the whole thing in Gàidhlig...post-dealain...I think . I'll ...

Re: A trì (#3) - Dè an obair a th' agaibh?

Tha mi ag obair aig an taigh. (I work at home.) At least that's the best way I can describe what I do. Specifically, I'm a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling my 12 year old son and teaching 2 classes at our local homeschool co-op one day a week. I've also just started making a little extra money (my hu...

Re: A dhà (#2) - Dè as toil leibh?

'S toil leam eachdraidh.(I like history. I teach it at our homeschool co-op.)
'S toil leam ceòl. (I like music. I play flute and bagpipes.)
'S toil leam eadar-lìon. (I like the internet...and I know I'm missing an article or something here.)

Re: Chickened Out

I wish we had the option of Gaelic education here in the States. I'm teaching my history class tomorrow, though, and as part of our lesson on Macbeth, I'm going to briefly introduce them to the concept that there actually IS another language in Scotland besides English (and whatever language immigra...

Re: Chickened Out

Hi Lisa, I'm Lisa! :D I have ONE person I know in real life (as opposed to online) who speaks Gaidhlig (he's not totally fluent but a more advanced learner than I am), and I almost always chicken out when I get the opportunity to use what little Gaidhilg I have with him. And when I do step out and t...

Re: Homeschooling

We've done a little Gaelic...watched some Can Seo and Speaking Our Language. My son knows some simple greetings and responses. Of course, he has no opportunity to use it here in any real capacity except almost as a "code"...I can call him down in public without people really knowing that I'm doing s...

Homeschooling

I hope this is the place to ask this: I know homeschooling isn't as common in Scotland as it is in the U.S., but I was wondering if there is an actual term in Gaidhlig for homeschool/homeschooling/homeschooler. The best I've been able to come up with is telling people what I do is that I'm a teacher...

Re: Fàilte! Welcome new learners!

Halò! Is mise Lìosa (or actually just Lisa). I’ve been lurking here for awhile and have finally decided to peek in the door for the Gaelic 2012 Initiative. I am a rank beginner…my written Gàidhlig consists mostly of “cut and paste” or stock phrases, and I tend be reluctant to speak the little I know...
