channainsa "duine mu seach" an aite aon as deidh aon - too literal! ;) Isn't that a slightly different meaning? For me, duine mu seach means 'taking regular turns within a group', eg during a game. Bhreab na ballaich uile am ball, duine mu seach, fad an fheasgair. The boys took turns at kicking the...

This is the message at the moment about the i-player: http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/finding_programmes/celtic - probably by end of 2008. Graisg, the pesky licencing agreements are UK-related, so Ireland wouldn't get it if UK-only, as is the case with all of these restricted reception br...

Stiùiriche ùr aig SMO

Tha Boyd Robasdan à Oilthigh Srath Chluaidh air ainmeachadh mar Stiùiriche an t-Sabhail bho 2009, as dèidh Tormoid MhicIlliosa. Boyd Robertson of Strathclyde Uni has been names as Director of SMO from 2009, after Norman Gillies retires. Good credentials in Gaelic education and teacher training, so h...

Lernst du Deutsch bei einem Österreicher? Oder aus tiefstem Bayern?
Hast sehr viel Dialekt in deiner Umgangssprache, finde ich, nicht nur Jugendjargon.
Du machts aber erstaunliche Fortschritte - sin thu fhèin. :D

In what sense? Situational classes, in all contexts I've seen, deal with fixed phrases, fixed situations. They stifle spontaneity. It's amazing how much you find you can say if you don't box yourself in, an it's amazing how poor a command you get of language taught situationally. I think you are ta...

Let me guess - 'infinitive'? 8-) Though, to be serious, I think it can actually be perfectly helpful to use the word to compare or illustrate concepts; we should not assume we are the only 'intelligent' adult learners around and veto things in case they are too difficult to grasp / potentially misle...

Situational Gaelic lessons may be useful for natives, but situational teaching for the learner distracts from the core of the language. This is too much of a generalisation. The situational teaching usually reinforces the core language work, and even vice versa. Most learners need (and want) both, ...

A fun way to spend a Sunday! But no doubt it'll be a good investment, as regards both Gaelic and your degree.

I was curious as to how/whether he was avoiding the usual practice of applying Latin or even English-language grammar systems to Gaelic. ('new m-s grammar')
