Re: Another query :)

Tàing a luchag agus a ghràisg airson ur deagh dhùrachdan. Cuiridh mi do dhùrachdan don phrìobhair againn. Bha rud beag trioblaid aice bho luchd-gearain ach bidh e seachad a-màireach. 'S e tùsanaich a bh'ann na luchd-gearain. Chan eil an latha cho sona dhaibh. Sin an latha nuair a thàinig daoine gall...

You won't lay an egg if you use the correct preposition :)
Rug an cat air luch. - The cat caught a mouse.
Rug an lach ugh - The duck laid an egg.

Re: Dè tha thu a' dèanamh? / What are you doing?

A couple of sentences which made it clear for me were: Tha mi a' bleoghainn na bà. (I am)(at milking-verbal noun)(of the cow-genetive) Tha mi ag iarraidh a' bhò a bhleoghainn (I am)(at asking/wanting-verbal noun)(the cow-feminine nominative)(to milk-lenited verbal noun) I think your sentence is corr...

Re: Dè tha dol aig an deireadh-seachdain?

Bidh mi a' gearradh an fheòir feasgar. Feumaidh mi seo a dhèanamh a h-uile seachdain-deireadh tron t-samhradh. I'll be cutting the grass this afternoon. I need to do this every weekend through the summer. Cha robh mi gur tuigsinn glè luath -- seadh, seo an t-samhradh a tha ann an Astràilia a-nis! I...

Re: Dictionary - Downloads

I find this downloadable, searchable dictionary very useful. It sits open on the screen when I'm reading or writing. It's a lot quicker than looking something up on line. http://barrettweb.net/gaidhlig.htm It contains both the old MacFarlane and MacBain dictionaries so it's a bit old fashioned, part...

Re: Short courses (immersion?)

I did levels 7 & 8 at SMO during Easter last year. With the short courses, a lot depends on the teachers, who are usually visiting just to take these courses. I've been lucky and had excellent teachers from levels 5 thru 8 and got a lot out of it. There's conversation groups and such going on in...

@Akerbeltz Mhothaich mi an-dràsda gu bheil na facalan à leabhar "Bho na h-Innse Gall as Iomallaiche". Bha fear de na h-ùghdairean, Aonghas Iain MacDhòmhnaill, an tidsear Ghàidhlig agam agus caraid aig m'athair ann an Astràlia nuair nach robh mi ach deich bliadhna a dh'aois. Bha iad na chia...

Re: Top tips for new Gaelic learners?

After reading and listening to Litir do Luchd Ionnsachaidh, I find it helpful to read it out loud a dozen times to practice not only pronunciation but the flow from word to word, which is very important in the spoken language. It will help to imprint manners of speech and turns of phrase in your bra...
