tr*nsl*t*ng a song without knowing the tune is pretty much impossible.

Re: Cat (Cait?) sìth pronunciation
Thank you both of these responses were exactly what I was looking for. I do wonder about the spelling discrepancy and therefore the pronunciation discrepancy between cat sìth and cat sìthe as they are different between the two websites ( https://www.cereproc.com/ and https://learngaelic.scot/dictio...

Re: Cat (Cait?) sìth pronunciation
Well the version in Final Fantasy VII isn't the authentic spelling -- that would be "cat sìth" without the first i. With the "i", it would often be taken to be a rendering of "Kate", with more or less the same sound as the English, but without the "i", it's a ...

Re: Naidheachdan Mu Dheidhinn Scots Wikipedia
As you may have heard, it's emerged this week that the Scots Language Wikipedia is mostly fake, being written in a bad eye-dialect of Scottish English by an American teenager. The Gàidhlig Wikipedia seems OK to me, but if anyone here's an active contributor to that I'd like to ask if vandalism is a...

Re: Vocative or no?
Chan eil Anndra ceart gu leòr. The speaker says KERT but if you click on the single word it is pronounced KERSHT, the latter being what I always heard my mother say, along with sagARSHT, etc Is there a syntactical/semantic reason for the change of pronounciation for this simple case or is it someth...

Re: Help in pronunciation of Scottish Gaelic
Unfortunately, what you've given us appears to be (like the rest of your post) a Google tr*nsl*t* version of something you've typed in in English, and it's not real Gaelic. As such, I'm not really sure there's any point knowing how to pronounce it. If you want something genuinely Gaelic, I recommend...

Re: bhitheas vs bhios and bithidh vs bidh
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm hypercorrecting because I expect a + relative, but I would never ever say "anns a tha", only "anns a bheil", so it really seems like I'm doing it wrong here.

Re: bhitheas vs bhios and bithidh vs bidh
I cannot Google any occurrences of anns a bhios mi outside of this forum subject and one online book with something that looks like tr*nsl*t**n from German – so is this just a simple a mistake, or is such usage also possible? It's possible I'm wrong (I'm not a native speaker) but if you drop the &q...

To clarify GunChleoc's point a little... When you say SCOTTISH AIR AMBULANCE, are you really saying is SCOTTISH AIR AMBULANCE SERVICE, but dropping the word "service"? Or SCOTTISH AIR AMBULANCE CREW, but dropping the word "crew" or similar? Notice that in English you have a "...

Re: Scottish Gaelic now available on DuoLingo
The site also seems to be lacking in any ability to create new sentences for exercise, which becomes problematic when you're like me and you start basically speedrunning the entire thing (the flipside of all that 'gameification') so you barely even pay attention to what the sentences actually are. ...

Updates: 1) You now select all the types of question you want, and they will be mixed up and presented in a random order 2) Whenever you see the "next >" button, you can now just press the enter key to continue. 3) I've added in a very sketchy little hangman. Currently only using the words...

Re: Lingua.guru beta test learning resources
Hi - These are fun and good practice! I'm wondering if there could be a "check all" button on the prepositions page to choose all the prepositions at once. I realize that's just lazy on my part, but I thought I would ask since that's what I've been doing - the whole table all at once for ...

Re: Lingua.guru beta test learning resources
I've added the animal memory game mentioned last week, and also some practice questions on telling the time.
There's a bug in the time questions, so you only hear the question read out the first time. I'll try and fix this for next week.
