a Thrisseil
Géill (seann litreachadh é) - submit
Islamabad = Baile Gèille do Dhia (Town of submission to God)
Glè chruthachail - Very creative :D

A native speaker told me that he never translates foreign place names unless they are of long standing (a' Ghearmailt, an Eadailt, Lunnain etc.)
Try and tr*nsl*t* my town of Wollongong for instance.
Ach tha tòrr spòrs ann co-dhiu. But it's lots of fun anyway.

Saoil gun do lorg mi an fheadhainn eile ann an àite eadar-dhealaichte? Only I overlooked this one (duine dall) agus tha e ag ràdh Meaning "Abode of Islam" seach 'submission' co-dhiù :P

Uill, a rèir WP...

Fuaim na Mara? (Caolas na Mara?)
Fèill Mhòr Èisg?
Talamh Cruaidh faisg air Uisge?
Dàn na Mara?
Fuaim nan Tuinn?
Uimhir Nathair?
Còig Eileanan?

Cò dhiubh a b' fheàrr leatsa? :)

'S fheàrr leam "Fuaim na Mara". Tha sin gu math freagarrach.

North Berwick, Peebles, Praha...
A rèir Ciad AlbRèile (no First ScotRail, Rèile na h-Alba), 's e Bearaig a Tuath a th' air North Berwick (agus tha mi air seo fhaicinn an àiteachan eile cuideachd).
Peebles - inntinneach. 'S ann bhon "Bhreatannais" a tha an t-ainm, mar sa Chuimris "pebyll" (barrachd na h-aon "pabell", no teanta). Ach 's ann a tha àite faisg air Steòrnabhagh leis an ainm "Pabail" (Uarach is Iosach): chan eil fios agam an e an aon fhreumh a tha seo no rud diofraichte.
Praha - dè mu dheidhinn "Àth a' mhaide-bhuinn"? No "Praghtha"?

Islamabad - uill, bad = baile (no 's dòcha dùn), ach "geill do Dhia"? Nam biodh e na ainm Arabais, seadh, bhiodh sin OK. Ach bu toigh leamsa "Baile na h-Ioslaime" no "Baile an Ioslaim" (dè an gnè a th' air "Ioslam"...)

@GunChleoc: Tha thu ceart. Cha do bhuail e nam cheann gum biodh freumh-fhaclachd aig 'Islam' cuideachd... :naire:

@Seonaidh. Wow, inntinneach, taing.
(1) Peebles - Bha mi a' smaoineachadh gun tàinig sin à peeble sa Bheurla Ghasda, ach tha Mac an Tailleir ag ràdh gu bheil thu ceart.
(2) Praha - Cha robh fhios 'am gum b' ann à práh mar àth (seach stairsneach). Shaolinn gun dhèan An t-Àth a' chùis; ge-tà, tha e coltach gu bheil fiosrachadh eile (cho coltach ris) ann: à pražit - 'to roast, calcine, fry' amsaa...

Halo, 'S mise Daibhidh agus tha mi a'fuireach ann an Ceann a ghearr-loch.
Bha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig ann an Obar Dheadhain, aig an sgoil oidhche(?)

Apologies if I'm hurting any Gaelic eyes with my first post, but thought I should try!
Can someone tell me an appropriate phrase for "night-school"

Moran taing!

Fàilte, a Dhaibaidh!
Tha sinn toilichte gu bheil thu ann! :D

Tha 'sgoil oidhche ' no 'sgoil-oidhche' ceart gu leòr, no 'clasaichean-oidhche'. Chì thu a h-uile rud.
'S dòcha gum bu chòir do thàthan a bhith ann - I suspect you need the hyphen as I would think it's a so-called close compound. (Our resident grammarian Akerbeltz will no doubt tell us! :spors: )

Fàilte ort! :smeid:

Tha thu a' dèanamh glè mhath!
You are dong very well

Tha tathan aig clas-oidhche, mar sin bidh aig sgoil-oidhche cuideachd.
http://www.faclair.com/ViewEntry.aspx?I ... 97107B78FD

clas-oidhche has a hyphen, so sgoil-oidhche does as well.

Another spelling word of warning: it's a very common mistake not to have a white space after a', so watch out for that. tha mi a' fuireach

Hello! I'm just starting out with Gaelic, so I definitely feel a little intimidated at the moment. I'm from the state of Virginia, USA, so learning sources are just bit scarce here. Hopefully I'll pick up the language quickly so I can chatter away with all of you. :naire:
