Unread post by Alleystria » Wed Apr 22, 2009 5:58 pm

Hello all,

I'm from Montreal, Canada and just started learning Gàidhlig via 'Beag air Bheag' a few days ago. 'fraid I won't be able to say anything interesting just yet, but I'm working on it :)

Fàilte ort.

Welcome.

Tha baile snog ann. Dh'fhuireas mo bhrathair ann am Montréal cuideachd.

It's a nice town. My brother lives in Montréal also.

Fàilte ort. Tha mise à Toronto ach tha mi air a bhith ann am Montréal iomadh turasan. Tha Fraingis (Eòrpach) agam math gu leòr cuideachd ach chan e an aon rud a th'ann gu direach (tha an sgeul coileanta gu math iol-fhillte).

(Welcome. I'm from Toronto but I've been in Montréal several times. I know (European) French quite well but it's really not the same thing (the whole story's quite complicated).

Quick tip: you don't ask "how's you, rself?" in English, you ask "how's yourself?" Just like that: "Ciamar a tha thu fhèin?"

Oh, I see. I thought it was literally "How are you, yourself?" Thanks for the heads up.
