A mhoch no thràth

Unread post by JLBeale » Sun Mar 31, 2013 12:14 am

Ann an "Gille Gallda" le Dòmhnall Dòmhnallach th' ann: "A mhoch no thràth cha robh fois aig na gillean."

Am biodh seo mar a tha "To be early or soon the boys weren't at their leisure." ?

Chan e, tha "a latha 's a dh'oidhche" agus abairtean mar sin a' ciallachadh "aig an àm seo 's aig an àm sin" agus leis a sin, "a mhoch no (a) thràth" = moch agus tràth (san latha) = uair sam bith

À chì mi. Mar sin

a mhoch = aig uaireigin sa mhadainn
no thràth = no aig uaireigin (a dh'aithghearr) nas fhaide dhan an là

An dòcha seo a chleachdadh air leth mar seo:

1) Ràinig am fear baile a mhoch.
2) Ràinig am fear baile a thràth.

?...Ged a tha 2) gun 1) mas fhìor a' ciallachadh dìreach "tràth sa là". Mar sin am bhiodh iad air chleachdadh le chéile mar as àbhaist?

Cha chreid mi gun urrainn dhut an cleachdadh as aonais a chèile, feumaidh tu an cumail còmhla. Ma tha rud tràth san latha, feumaidh tu "tràth" no "sa mhadainn" no rud mar sin a chleachdadh.

JLBeale,
You shouldn't take it as given that they means two different things -- it looks to me like a sort of "six and half-a-dozen" construction.

Tha fhios agam, tha mi dìreach a' faighneachd airson feòrachais. Chan eil feòrachas daonnan a' marbh a' chait. :priob:
