bon appétit ! - ith do leòr

aviator - isn't that the same as pilot = paidhleat?

hitchhike - falbh air an òrdaig. thoir lioft do chuideigin - give someone a lift. I haven't found a noun version.

aviation - itealanachd

baccalauréat - that would be the highers or advanced highers I guess. - deuchainnean Àrd-Ìre. Better do some research on this though

comic (publication) - pàipear-éibhinn. Gaelic spelling of cartoon is cartùn

to cross out - cuir loidhne troimhe; a' cur loidhne troimhe

slobber - try this: http://www2.smo.uhi.ac.uk/gaidhlig/facl ... tairg=Lorg

Other words I can't find:

to unblock (a pipe, a sink...)
a waste collection centre/site (not the same thing as a garbage dump)
to unstick something
to take off (talking about a plane)
to move off (talking about a car etc)
a demoiselle/young lady (?)/miss? (can you say "òigbhean uasal?")
deodorant
live (as a radio or tv program)
a dolmen
to have an idea that... ("se douter que" in French)
law (as an academic subject: to study Law)

thanks in advance

"live (as a radio or tv program)": At Radio Alba they write "beò".

Mar sin, 's dòcha gur e "gabh air falbh", nach e?

to have an idea that... ("se douter que" in French) - saoilidh mi gu bheil duine ann... I imagine that someone (lit. a person) is there..

a waste collection centre/site (not the same thing as a garbage dump) - I think ionad-sgudail might do the trick
to move off (talking about a car etc) - a' gluasad air falbh, a' falbh
deodorant - dìodorant (Am Faclair Beag coughed that one up with no problem)
a dolmen - crom-leac (dito)
to have an idea that... ("se douter que" in French) - tomhais, a' tomhas

Thanks a bunch guys! I wonder why I didn't find deodorant... obviously it wasn't in any of my paper dictionaries...
Concerning dolmen, to me a cromlech and a dolmen aren't the same thing, a dolmen is a "stone table" (from Breton taol= table and maen = stone), a cromlech is a kind of circle of stones (crom + leac...). There's no other word in Gaelic to call the "stone tables"? :?

still 2 words to find for this time, plus "stone table/dolmen" if there's a specific word:
to unblock (a pipe, a sink...)
to unstick something

+ another word I forgot:
to do little jobs (in the house) (French: bricoler)

mòran taing a-rithist :D

There is massive confusion about what precisely is a cromlech and what is a dolmen and to all intents and purposes, most people use them interchangeably, which is why the Faclair Beag lumps them together. A search for either term on Google Images throws up pretty much the same thing, a slap on some slab-feet.

Also dubious about this quest for "finding the Gaelic" for words like baguette - it's a loanword in just about every European language, not sure we need to be different when it comes to culinary terms. Once you start, where do you draw the line?

to unblock (a pipe, a sink...) - glan às (e.g. bha a' phìob air a stopadh/stopte ach ghlan mi às i)
a waste collection centre/site (not the same thing as a garbage dump) - goireas trusadh sgudail
to unstick something - thoir às an t-sàs rud / e.g. thug mi às an t-sàs e - I ('ve) unstuck it
to take off (talking about a plane) - tog air (tha am plèan a' togail air)
to move off (talking about a car etc) - falbh (e.g. dh'fhalbh an càr; ghluais an càr air falbh)
a demoiselle/young lady (?)/miss? (can you say "òigbhean uasal?") - a bhean-uasal (abbreviation: a' Bh-uasal; plural: na Mnà-uasal; na M-uasal)
deodorant
live (as a radio or tv program) - beò
a dolmen
to have an idea that... ("se douter que" in French) - barail a bhith agad air... (tha barail agam air gu bheil/gur e .....)
law (as an academic subject: to study Law) - lagh (a' toirt a-mach ceum lagha; a' studaigeadh lagh; ag ionnsachadh lagh)

bricoler - a' dèanamh charan (-obrach) aig an taigh /a' dèanamh caran (-obrach) an taighe

Which household chores do you dislike? Dè na caran(-obrach) nach toil leat a bhith a' dèanamh aig an taigh?
