Me and my wife to be are getting our wedding rings engraved. I want to put "My heart belongs to you forever" in Scottish Gaelic on her ring. Is " 'S ann leatsa a tha mo chridhe gu bràth" a correct tr*nsl*t**n? And how do you pronounce this sentence if it is correct?
I would really appreciate your help. I have been searching all over the internet and this is the best tr*nsl*t**n I could find and I really wanted to make sure it's correct before I put it on my fiancé's wedding ring. :) We are getting married on June 1st so this is quite urgent.

Thank you!

Perhaps, rather than rely on the somewhat shaky "expertise" of us on here, most of whom have learnt Gaelic rather than being native squeakers, it would be better to shell out some dosh for a professional opinion. If the gift means that much to you, that is.

I think you might be right. :) Would you happen to know anyone who does this?

I would say the correct tr*nsl*t**n is as follows; gu bràth is used with future/immediate tense in Gaelic

Is ann leatsa a bhios mo chridhe gu bràth.

If you didn't have "gu bràth", then "'S ann leatsa a tha mo chridhe" is fine, but gu bràth indicates future.

A shorter version would be 'S leatsa mo chridhe gu bràth.

Thank you, that was insightful. Any idea on the pronounciation though?

You can't really give decent Gaelic pronunciation (the individual sounds and also the intonation) with English approximations - you'd need a good grasp of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA).

Either ask the agency you used if you can ring them to hear it spoken, or approach one of the Skype users on here and hear it spoken, eg member Dùghlas (dougfraser on Skype) - he is always offering to help learners, so hope he doesn't mind me mentioning him! :priob:.

You can listen to cridhe and gu bràth on the Am Faclair Beag site (although the 'cridhe' seems to jump when I try it, and in your sentence it has an extra 'h', leading to a ch (moonlicht)) sound)

Phonetics would be great, I understand them well. It's just that I can't find any online tr*nsl*t*r that gives you the phonetics as well.

Thank you guys for all your help, I don't think the pronounciation matters anymore because we decided to go to Scotland for our honeymoon so we'll just find someone local to teach us both. :)

You need to be careful with that site, not all people who have contributed are native speakers. On the Faclair Beag, all pronunciations are done by native speakers, so it's better to go there first.
