Pronunciation of interesting words

Unread post by caiptean »

Hey guys :) It's been a while,

I just need some quick help with a couple of words that I can't figure out how to pronounce to save my life.

mnà

cnoc

maidne

I don't know how to pronounce the mn, cn, and dn clusters.

Tapadh leibh!

Math d' fhaicinn a-rithist!

Cnoc is in the Faclair Beag

In general, there are also two detailed guides on my resource site which cover most eventualities.

That aside, mnà is fairly regular - /mrãː/. Maidne is a little irregular - or you could just argue the dn cluster is so rare it's essentially irregular. In any case, it's /madNʲə/ (broad d usually) though many speakers use madainn both for the nominative and the genitive.
