Seo an "gun" a-rithist...

Unread post by poor_mouse » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:51 pm

Naidheachdan BhBC:
"Ach gun cuir iad air dòigh an cabhsair, tha an trioblaid a tha sin gu bhith ann fad an t-siubhail," thuirt e.
'S dòcha "mura cuir iad air dòigh" amsaa; ach a bheil "gun cuir" ceart gu leòr?

Nam bheachd-sa, tha an darna eisimpleir ceart:
tha Comhairle nan Eilean Siar fhathast gun an geata eadar an loch sin agus an fhadhal a chàradh
, ach chan eil mi cinnteach mu "gun cuir".

This is a contracted form of "gu/gus an cuir iad air dòigh an cabhsair" "until they put the causeway right".

Obh, seo "gus an cuir"="until"! Mòran taing, a Nèil!

Agus am faod "gun cuir" a' ciallachadh "gus an cuir"= "so that, in order that" ?

Chan ann anns a' cho-theacsa seo, mo bheachdsa.

Ach seall seo: ann an co-theacsaichean eile, 's dòcha.

Tha mi a' càradh an taigh gus an urrainn sinn a' fuireach ann.

I'm repairing the house so that we can live in it. (Or, as my Gaelic-influenced father would say, till we can live in it.)

Chan eil diofar mòr ann eadar - "until we can " agus "so that we can".
Anns na dà shuidheachadh, bidh sinn a' smaoinntinn air latha nuair a bhios comasach dhuinn, rudeigin a dhèanamh.

Tapadh leibh, ach dè mu dheidhinn "Tha mi a' càradh an taigh gum fuirich sinn ann"? (an àite "gus am fuirich", "so that we'll live there")
