Ma + future

Unread post by Níall Beag » Fri Apr 24, 2009 4:07 pm

Noticed this in Alasdair's sig:

Innis dhomh ma nì mi mearachdan, mas e ur toil e.

Shouldn't that be the relative future -- ie ma deanas or ma nìtheas?

No, "ma ni mi" is correct. See examples in both Owen's and MacAlpine's dictionaries.

Canainn-sa "ma dhèanas mi na mearachdan" air "if I make mistakes". Cha chuala mi "ma nì mi" a-riamh, ach tha e anns am Faclair aig Neil MacAlpine air an duilleag fhosglaidh xxx gu fior.

Update
Bhon làrach-lìn Taic
"The relative future verb only exists for verbs which form their Future Tense in a regular manner."
Tha "ma nì mi" ceart ma-thà. Chuala mi "ma dhèanas" gu tric, ach tha e coltach gun chuala mi sin às na beòil luchd-ionnsachaidh mar mi-fhìn. :)

Eiseimplir eile nas cumanta:

Dè (a) nì mi?

cf

Dè bhios thu a' dèanamh? = Relative Future.

Chan eil mi ceàrr :priob: Chan eil -(e)as ag obair air "Dèan", tha 'n relative future dìreach

Tha gnìomhairean mì riaghailteach caran budastach ann an cànan sam bith - ann an sìor ghluasad.

Cluinnidh tu dèanaidh agus dhèanas aig cuid dhe na Gàidheil 's chan ann aig a' luchd-ionnsachaidh a-mhàin. 'S e dhèanas am facal a bha ann an Gàidhlig Arainn cuideachd (faic Dwelly fo "dèan").

Cha chanainnsa gu bheil e cho cumanta (no cho "ceart" an sùilean na mòr-chuid) 's a tha ma nì idir, ach tha e ann 's tha bho chionn greis.
