I was wondering if anyone knew how to say "I was wondering" in Gaelic?
"I was wondering if I should go out."
Would you say: "Bha mi a' gabhail iongantas..." ?
Are there different ways to word that?
Thanks

Tha diofar dhòighean ann seo a chur an cèill.
There are different ways to express this.
Bha e mar cheist orm - I was wondering
Bha mi a' gabhail iongantas
Bha iongantas orm
An dùil an robh - I wonder if...
A bu saoil - I wonder...

i would simply say "saoil" and then put the rest of the sentence in the dependent form (question form)
saoil am bi an t-side math a-màireach?

That's fine for the 1st person present, but you can't use it for any of the other persons except the 1st.
What that sentence really means though is "Do you think the weather will be nice tomorrow?"
It could be rhetorical in which case it would mean "I wonder if the weather will be nice tomorrow?" But if it's a real question to someone, then it doesn't really mean "I wonder" at all. It's an indirect way of asking someone what they think.
So you need the other sentences listed above to report that someone "was wondering"!
Anyway, you could also say just simply: "Bha mi a' saoilsinn" or "Bha e/i a' saoilsinn"

channainsa 'bha mi a' gabhail iongnadh' an aite iongantas
agus tha mi ag aontachadh le neoni agus 'saoilidh mi' - cleachdaidh mi sin airson 'i was wondering' cuideachd ge ta - mar 'saoil am buainnacheas rangers a-nochd? I wonder if rangers will win tonight?
ach co dhiu no co dheth

haha, that's funny. I might use "bha mi wondrigeadh" after all.
'S toil leum "Bha e mar cheist orm" cuideachd. Tha e mar an Fhraingis. (..an?)
Tapadh leibh

Carson am biodh e mar an Fhraingis? Sa chànan sin thathar ag ràdh "je me demandais", chan "c'était comme question sur moi"

Uill, chan eil mi cinnteach Lug, ach creididh mi gu bheil "mar an Fhrangais" a' ciallachadh rudeigin mar "je me demandais", far nach eil "me" coltach ris a' Bheurla. Agus, gu dearbh, mura h-eil rudeigin "coltach ris a' Bheurla", tha e coltach ris an Fhrangais...
