Ciamar a tha an t-sìde / How's the weather?

Unread post by Marine »

Tha an t-sìde air a bhith uabhasach teth o chionn ghoirid. Làithean cho bruthainneach ! Bha mi nam fhallas is air mo losgadh (chan eil a’ ghrian a’ tighinn rium). Ged nach eil i fionnar idir, tha i fada nas fheàrr a-nis: blàth do chuid ach fhathast ro theth dhomhsa.

The weather has been incredibly hot recently. Such sultry days ! I was sweating (sorry about the details, I'm using words I've just learned) and getting burnt (the sun does not suit me). Though it isn't fresh at all, it is far better now: warm for some but still too hot for me.

'S buidhe dhut ! Feumaidh mi dòigh a lorg gus a bhith a' fuireach ann an Alba, is cinnteach. A bharrachd air sin... tha Gàidhlig ann an siud !
Tha an t-uisge ann an seo mu dheireadh thall.

Lucky you ! I have to find a way to live in Scotland, that's for sure. Moreover, there is Gaelic there!
It is finally raining here.

Some typos. I recommend using a spell checker, this will help you avoid such mistakes: http://www.igaidhlig.net/gd/an-dearbhair-beag/

an-diugh
a-rithist

Bha an dìle bhàthte ann an-diugh
There was a heavy downpour today

Thanks. Here it is again. I copied this from a gaelic dictionary but typed it wrong.

Tha i fliuch an-diugh, a-rithist.
It is wet today, again.

I will have a look for a spell checker as I don't think that one works with Chrome.

Use Firefox, it's free. LibreOffice also has the same spellchecker available.

One way to remember that it's an-diugh and not an-duigh is the pronunciation:

an-duigh - this would sound something like an doo
an-diugh - this gets the dyoo sound because of the slender vowel

Apologies for the non-IPA phonetics, but hopefully you get the point.

Tha i glè fuar agus dorcha a-muigh.

It is very cold and dark outside.

Bha e uabhasach stoirmeil an seo air a' Ghàidhealtachd an-dè, ach blàth, trì-deug no ceithir-deug Celsius.
Tha e nas fheàrr an-diugh, ach gu math fuar, ceithir C.

It was terribly stormy here in the Highlands yesterday, but warm, 13 or 14 C.
It's better today, but pretty cold, 4 C.
