Madainn mhath,

Tha i uabhasach brèagha an-diugh. Tha i grianach agus blàth. Ged a tha mi a-staigh anns an oifis, dh'fhosgail mi an uinneag, agus 's urrainn dhomh na craobhan fhaicinn agus na h-eòin a chluintinn.

Good morning,
It is awfully beautiful today. It is sunny and warm. Although I am inside in the office, I opened the window and I can see the trees and hear the birds.

Glé mhath! Tha sin brèagha.

Tha an aimsir inntinneach an-seo an-diugh. Tha an ceò a' cladaich ann. Tha e bòidheach agus beagan fliuch. Tha e a' roiligeadh anns na sràidean, agus tha e fionnar anns an aodann.

Very good! That is lovely. The weather here is interesting today. There is haar (coastal fog). It's beautiful and a little wet. It rolls in the streets and is cool on the face.

An t-uisge trom an-drasta fhèin! Dh'fhàs mi gu tur fliuch a' ruith eadar am càr agam agus an oifis! A-rèir na naidheachdan bi an aimsir mar seo tron latha.

Heavy rain right now! I got totally wet running between my car and my office! According to the news the weather will be like this through the day.

Fhuair mi a-mach gun robh tornado ann sa mhadainn! Thachair e mu shia mìltean bho seo. Tha iongantas mòr orm oir chan eil stoirm mar sin an seo gu tric. Mas math mo chuimhne, thachair an tornado mu dheireadh anns an sgìre seo o chionn corr is fhichead bliadhna.

I found out that there was a tornado this morning. It happened around six miles from here. It is a big surprise to me because we don't get storms like that often around here. If I remember correctly, the last tornado in this area was more than twenty years ago.

...eadar a' chàr agus an oifis, 's dòcha.
A-rèir nan naidheachdan (Gen.) bidh an aimsir...

Tha i glè theth an-seo, agus ma bhios mi air fàs bog, bidh seo leis an fhallas!

It's very hot here, and if I become wet, it would be because of sweat!

Tapadh leat! Bu choir dhomh a bhith fios agam air an diofar eadar genitive agus nominative!
Cha deach duine a ghoirteachadh anns an tornado an-dè.
A-rèir nan naidheachdan 'b e sin a' chiad tornado (air a' chlàradh) riamh anns an sgìre sin air a bheil Suffolk mar ainm.

Thanks! I should know the difference between genitive and nominative!
Nobody was hurt in the tornado yesterday.
According to the news it was the first tornado (recorded) ever in that county called Suffolk.

Obh obh! Chan eil e math, iolair.
iolair wrote:Cha deach duine a ghoirteachadh anns an tornado an-dè.
Uill, tha sin math.
A Luchag Bhochd, an toil leat an teas?

Tha i fliuch an-seo. Tha an t-uisge a' taomadh o chionn La na Sabaid* (agus Dihaoine cuideachd). 'S beag a chuireas e orm gu mòr, ach tha Lùnastal fionnar coimheach.

Oh dear! That's not good, iolair. ... Well, that is good. Poor mouse, do you like the heat? ... It is wet here. It's pouring rain since Sunday (and Friday too). That doesn't bother me very much, but a cool August is strange.

* In English I would use the present perfect, but is that appropriate here in Gaelic, or is present tense okay?

Madainn mhath,

An deidh grunn laithean le aimsir mhath tha an t-uisge gu leòr ann an-diugh.
Thathar gum bi na raithdean cunnartach ann an àitechean feasgar.
Nuair a bha mi a' draibheadh dhan oifis, cha robh e cho dona.

Good morning,
After several days of good weather there is plenty of rain today.
They say that the roads will be dangerous in places in the afternoon.
When I was driving to work, it wasn't that bad.

Tha an t-uisge agad gu mòr, iolair! Bithibh air ur faiceall! Bha e grianach an-seo an-dè, ach bidh an t-uisge an-diugh.

You have a lot of rain, iolair! Be careful! It was sunny here yesterday, but it will rain today.

Tha mi ann an Inbhir Nis an-diugh. Chan e droch latha a th’ ann ach tha i beagan sgòthach. Ged-thà, chan eil an t-uisge ann agus tha mi toilichte le sin.

I’m in Inverness today. It isn’t a bad day but it’s a bit cloudy. However, it isn’t raining and I’m happy with that.

Tha e brèagha an seo an-diugh faisg air Boston. Tha e soillear agus tiorram. Chan eil e ro theth. Bidh e feasgar air leth math airson BBQ.
Tha mi a' smaoineachadh nach robh an Lunastal am bliadhna cho teth ri bliadhna àbhaisteach.

It is beautiful here today near Boston. It is clear and dry. It is not too hot. It will be an exceptional evening for a BBQ.
I think that August this year was not as hot as a usual year.

Nach robh an t-uisge ann an Inbhir Nis an-dè? Uill, bha an t-uisge a' taomadh ann an Anstruther. Tha e soillear agus grianach sa mhadainn seo. Iolair, tha mi 'n dòchas gun robh BBQ math.

It wasn't raining in Inverness yesterday? Well, it was pouring rain in Anstruther. It is clear and sunny this morning. Iolair, I hope it was a good BBQ.

Tha an t-sìde nas miosa an-diugh. Tha i blàth fhathast ach tha i nas fluiche - sguadal! Tha mi ’n dùil gu bheil an t-sìde ann am Boston an-diugh nas fheàrr na an t-sìde ann an Inbhir Nis. Ciamar a bha am BBQ, Iolair?

Tha mi ’n dòchas gu bheil i nas snoige ann an Ànsruthair cuideachd, a Mhairead. Ciamar a tha an t-sìde far a bheil thu fhèin? Tha Ànsruthair ann am Fìobha, nach eil? Cha robh mi fhìn a-riamh ann ach tha mi a’ smaoineachadh gur e àite gu math inntinneach a th’ ann.

Tha leabhar math agam airson an t-sìde. ’S e ‘Everyday Gaelic’ a t-ainm a th’ air. A bheil sibh eòlach air an leabhar?

The weather is worse today. It is still warm but it is wetter - rubbish! I expect the weather is better in Boston today than in Inverness. How was the BBQ Iolair?
I hope the weather is nicer in Anstruther too, Mairead. How is the weather where you are. Anstruther is in Fife, no? I’ve never been there myself but I think its quite an interesting place.
I have a good book for the weather. It’s called everyday gaelic. Do you know it?

Please feel free to pick up on any grammer/ spelling errors - multiple heads are better than one after all! I noticed in your above posts that you talk about the weather as masculine - tha e àlainn and not tha i àlainn. Perhaps it is one of those odd ones that can be either masculine or feminine. Just thought I’d point it out so you can investigate if you want :)

Obh, tha mi duilich -- tha thu ceart mun aimsir. Dhìochuimhnich mi gum bheil i boireann. Tapadh leat!

Tha i glè ghrianach ann am Fìobha an-diugh. Tha i grianach ann an Ànsruthair, agus ann an Cathair Challdainn 's Cill Rìmhinn cuideachd. Bidh Fìobha an Ear-thuath brèagha mar is trice. Tha mi a' creidsinn gum bheil e glè thlàth fad am bliadhna, ach tha mi às àite le geamhraidhean uabhasach fuar. (-30 Celsius 's nas fuaire, agus sia mìosan le sneachd!) Tha Ànsruthair inntinneach gu dearbh. Tha mòran eachdraidh ann, agus tha e glè bhòidheach.

Chaidh mi agus mo phiuthar a dh'Inbhir Nis anns an t-Samhain an-uiridh. Chòrd e rinn! 'S toil leam an taigh-tasgaidh agus am McDonald's le Gàidhlig anns an uinneag.

Chan eil leabhar sin agam. Am bheil e daor?

Oh, I'm sorry -- you are right about the weather. I forgot it is feminine. Thank you! ... It is very sunny in Fife today. It is sunny in Anstruther, and in Kirkcaldy and St Andrews too. Northeast Fife is usually lovely. I think it is very mild all year long, but I am from a place with terribly cold winters. (-30 Celsius and colder, and 6 months with snow!) Anstruther is interesting indeed. There is a lot of history, and it is very beautiful. ... My sister and I went to Inverness in October last year. We liked it! I like the museum and the McDonald's with Gaelic on the window. ... I don't have that book. Is it expensive?

’S e do bheatha, a Mhairead.

-30 °C! Tha sin fuar. Cò às a tha thu? An e Canadach, no Aimeireaganach no, ’s dòcha, Ruiseanach a th’ annad? ’S e Albannach a th’ annam fhìn, tha mi à Inbhir Nis fhèin.

Tha mi ann an Glaschu an-diugh. Thàinig mi a-raoir. Tha i àlainn an seo cuideachd. Bha mi nam shuidhe sa phàirc a’ leughadh leabhar.

You’re welcome Margaret.

-30 °C! That is cold. Where are you from? Are you Canadian, or American or maybe Russian? I’m Scottish, I’m from Inverness itself.

I’m in Glasgow today. I came last night. It is lovely here too. I was sitting in the park reading a book.
