Tog gun.....

Of course....!

Seo abairt ùr a dh'ionnsaich Gàidheal Uibhist dhomh bho chionn ghoirid.

Here's a wee phrase that I was taught by a Gael from Uist recently.
Tha e nas fheàrr ma chruthaicheas mi còmhradh beag airson sealltainn dhuibh ciamar a thathar ga cleachdadh.

It's better if I create a wee conversation to show you how it is used.

(Air a' fòn)

Màiri: Halò, a bheil Dòmhnall a-staigh?
Ealasaid: Tha. Fuirich diog.
Dòmhnall: Halò, Dòmhnall a' bruidhinn.
Màiri: A Dhòmhnaill, Màiri Nic a' Phearsain an seo.
Dòmhnall: A Mhàiri! Ciamar a tha thu?
Màiri: Tha gu math, tapadh leat. Tha sinn gu bhith a' cumail taigh-cèilidh an ath-sheachdain, ach tha fear an taighe a dhìth oirnn. Saoil an tig thu gus fear an taighe a dhèanamh dhuinn?
Dòmhnall: Tog gun tig! Bidh mi ro thoilichte a dhèanamh dhuibh.

Dòmhnall: Of course I'll come. (i.e absolutely, without question)

Chan eil. Tog mar "pick up" san t-seagh "cha leig thu leas faighneachd" - no need to even ask me of course i'll do it.

Ma "thogas" tu rudeigin tha thu ga thuigsinn.

Mar sin, "tog gun tig" - tha e ga thuigsinn gun tig mi. it's understood that I'll come.

Chan e tog a th' ann idir ach do(gh), tha sin follaiseach ann an abairtean (Uibhisteach), tha an -g a' tighinn on fhacal 'na dhèidh gun, cf do(gh) nach dèan.

Agus seo na tha aig Dwelly's air. Tha sinn uile air an fhacal "dòcha" a chluinntinn, cha robh fios agam gun dàinig e o "dogh" idir :)
