Cait' a bheil/ciamar a tha sibh uile ag ionnsachadh a'Ghàidhlig? (No cait' an robh sibh)
Tha mise ga h-ionnsachadh ris an leabhar "Teach Yourself Gaelic". A bheil duine eile (Anyone else) ag ionnsachadh ris?

Chan eil mise a' leantainn cursa sam bith. Dh'ionnsaich mi na fuaimean le ceòl agus an làrach Akerbeltz, agus an uair sin thòisich mi air sgrìobhadh sna fòraman. Tha mi a' cleachdadh leabhraichean gràmair agus faclairean, agus is toil leam èisdeachd ri Radio nan Gàidheal.

Chluich mi Colin & Cumberland aig a' BhBC gu tric nuair a thòisich mi air ionnsachadh.

Math fhéin.

Tha mi ag eisteachd ri Radio nan Gáidheal agus a'cluich Colin & Cumberland cuideachd! Ach cha toil leam C & C. Bha i...áraid. Dé tha thusa a'smaoinachadh mu i? Tha mi cuideachd a'leughadh na faclairean agus leabhraichean grámar.

'S math a tha fios agam. (It's good to know?)

A bheil bárran agad orm? (Do you have any tips for me?)

Co-dhiú, tapadh leat airson deanamh an cuspair úr seo.

'S e do bheatha :D

Is toil leam cuisean àraid

Cha do chluich mi a h-uile geama aig C&C, ach tha cuid dhaibh feumail dhomh fhathast agus cluichidh mi iad bho àm gu àm.
'S math a tha fios agam. (It's good to know?)
Chan eil mi cinnteach ciamar a chanas tu sin. 'S math gum bi fios agam an-dràsda, no 'S math fiosrachadh fhaighinn mun a dheidhinn, 's dòcha.
A bheil bárran agad orm? (Do you have any tips for me?)
Seo na mholainn-sa (Chan shaoil mi gum bi "bàrr" am facal ceart):

Sgrìobh ruideigin gach latha. Chan eil feum agad air mòran a sgrìobhadh mura bhios ùine gu leòr agad agus bidh rosgrann no dhà gu leòr dhut. Barrachd air sin, cleachd na fuaimean bho àm gu àm. Nì mise seo le ceòl. Mar sin, cha bhi feum agam air smaoineachadh air faclan no gràmar nuair a bhios mi an cleachdadh.

Ma bhios cothrom agad, bruidhinn ri daoine 'sa Ghàidhlig. Chan eil ach Skype agamsa airson seo a dhèanamh. Tha e doirbh an tòiseach, ach tha e fior mhath.

Use it or lose it :priob:

Tha mi-fhin ag ionnsachadh na cànain le leabhraichean mar TY Gaelic, Facal air an fhacal is Leabhar nan Litrichean còmhla ris an DVD. Bidh mi cuideachd ag èisteachd ris an rèidio no a' coimhead Tbh air oidhche Ardaoin. Agus tha agam ri ràdh gur e goireas air leth a th' ann anns an Eadar-lion cuideachd. Ach bha fhios agaibh air sin mu thràth. :)

Hmm... tha am faclair agam ag rádh gu bheil "Bárr" = "Tip"
bruidhinn ri daoine 'sa Ghàidhlig.
Hehe, tha mi a'bruidhinn ri daoine 'sa Gháidhlig gach lá. Ach chan eil iad gam thuigsinn. Tha iad ag rádh "Speak in english foo!"

Tha barrachd air an aon chiallachadh air an fhacal Beurla. Cleachdaidh tu bàrr ann an abairtean mar bàrr na beinne, m.e. Chan eil e a' ciallachadh "moladh".

Tha agad ris na fuaimean a chleachdadh tuilleadh :obair: no tha foighidinn a dhìth orra. :smaoin:

A bheil cànanan eile agadsa, a Toist?

Tha e neònach-fhéin, ach bha mo chuid Ghàidhlig 's mo chuid Spàinntis nas fheàrr as déidh Germailtis ionnsachaidh a thoisicheadh (Although I've no idea if the grammar there is anything like correct!)

I imagine it's a sort of linguistic "cross-training".

Research into selective aphasia (and more recently electrical brain scanning) has shown that all languages learnt as an infant share one area of the brain, and all languages learnt afterwards share another area of the brain. This is why your adult-learned languages can often interfere with each other, but not with your mother-tongue(s).

By starting to learn German, I stimulated a tired (and bored) bit of my brain with something exciting and envigorating.

So, anything you can do to keep that bit of your brain fresh seems to help.

This is why I'd recommend the Michel Thomas language courses to learners of any language. Even though the courses are only in Italian, Spanish, French and German, they're just so easy... so effortless. Incomplete, certainly, but they're like an exercise bike for that bit of your brain.

NB:
"Like an exercise bike" may suggest to you that they're somewhat expensive. You'd be right.

The English word has more than one meaning. You use bàrr in expressions like top of the mountain, for example. It does not mean "recommendation".

Tha agad ris na fuaimean a chleachdadh tuilleadh no tha foighidinn a dhìth orra.
You'll need to practise the sounds more, or they lack patience.

Agus beagan ceartachaidh:

cha robh mi gad thuigsinn - gam = aig+mo, gad = aig+do

A Níall,

Chan eil ach Beurla agus Gáidhlig agam. Agus tha Gáidhlig glé bheagan agam. Bha mi a'toiseachadh.... (3-4 weeks ago)

Oh and a bit of French. Just because everyone learns that here in Canada.

That's interesting about the brain and language storage. Are these courses books? Or like whole courses? I don't have piles of cash to spend.

A Ghunchleoc,

Tha mi glé dhuilich airson scriobhadh "Ghunchleoic". Tapadh leat airson an cheartachaidh.

'S e fireannach a tha annamsa.

Oh I see about the bárr thing. I just assumed the dictionary knew what I was thinking :P
cha robh mi gad thuigsinn - gam = aig+mo, gad = aig+do
Ack, bha fios agam. (Temporary insanity, you know?)

Na bi duilich, a Thosta. Tha Gàidhlig glè mhath agad mu thràth, agus nì sinn uile mearachdan.
Don't be sorry, Toast. Your Gaelic is very good already, and we all make mistakes.

The course is a set of CDs and clocks in at a not-inconsiderable 80-90 $CA (although Amazon US have them at a cut price right now).
