Diardaoine nuair a dh'fhàg mi an taigh air baighsaigeal airson dhol dhan obair, bha dorch ceart gu leòr agus bha roth cruaidh ann, bha e -5C. Tha mu sia mìle eadar an taigh agus an oifis. Mar as trice aig an àm seo nuair nach eil e cho fuar, bith an deigh a' dol à bith leth-shlighe sìos a' ghleann ach gu h-iontach bha an deigh fhathast ann nuair a ràinig mi beul na glinne. Mu mìle bhon oifis is mi taobh an t-sàil, gu h-obann fhairich mi gaoth bhlàth mar bhalla de theas agus choimhead mi air an làr agus cha robh deigh ann tuilead na bu motha. Chur e iongnach mòr mòr orm mar cho luath sa chaidh an deigh à bith air an t-slighe dhan oifis. Nuair a ràinig mi an oifis rinn mi iomradh air a sin agus thuit cuideigin eile gu robh e +6C aig an taigh aigesan nuair a dh'fhàg e a thaigh. Tha esan a' fuireach gu deas bhon oific 's tha mise a' fuireach gu tuath. Tha sinn a' ciallachadh gu robh diofar de theas de 11C eadar an taigh aigesan 's an taigh agamsa. Bha sin cho neo-àbhaisteach chuala mi gun do rinn iad iomradh air a sin sa phàipear-naidheachd.
When I left the house on Thursday to go to work, it was still dark, and it was -5C and there was ice on the road. Often at this time of the year when it's not so cold, as some point as I cycle down the valley I'll come to where the ice is melting and then gone. This time however, when I got to the mouth of the valley there was still ice and it was still cold. About a mile from the office, next to the salt water, I felt this warm wind like a wall of heat, I looked on the ground, the ice was gone. At the office I made mention of it to the others. Another guy (who lives south of the office, I live north) at the office said it was +6C at his house. That means there was an 11C (over 20F) difference in temperature from one side of the city to the other. This was so unusual that they made mention of it in the newpaper.

farsaing no leathann. Chan eil fios agam dè am facal nas fhèarr - I don't know which is the better word.
Dh'fhàs e fuar an-seo a-rithist. Bha i nas blàithe DiDòmhnaich.
It's grown cold again here. It was warmer on Sunday.

Tha i glè fhuar a-nochd! Tha i soilleir a-nis, ach fuar oir tha gaoth a tuath làidir ann. Nas traithe, bha i gu math blàth.
It is very cold tonight! It is clear, but cold because there is a strong north wind. Earlier, it was quite warm.
PS: Dè Gàidhlig tha air "Quite" agus "Because"? Tha "gu math" is "oir" ceart?

Tha mi ann am Fairbanks, Alaska fad trì latha. An-dè sheas sinn a-mach airson beagan fois a ghabhail agus chunnaic sinn tomhas-teas: -1F a tha co-ionnan ri -19F. Cha robh sgeul san adhar idir. Chaidh sinn a-mach na b'fhaide agus bha mi dòchasach na fir-clis fhaicinn ach bha e sgothach.
I am in Fairbanks for 3 days. Yesterday, we stepped outside to get some air and we saw a thermometer which read -1F (which works out to -19C). It was clear. Later we went out later and I was hoping to see the Northern Lights but it was cloudy.

Chan eil Fairbanks buileach cho fada gu tuath ri cearcal arctach ach mas math mo chuimhne (tha mi air ais ann an Juneau, fada fada gu deas), ach saoilidh gu robh èirich na grèine mu 10 uairean na maidne agus dol fodha na grèine mu 3 uairean feasgair. Tha ciaradh an fhaisgair a'mhairinn fad dà uair a thìde geta.
Aig meadhon là, tha a'grian gu math ìosal, an fhìrinn, 's ann air fàire a tha e, agus 's e ifrinn a th'ann ma tha thu a' draibheadh, tha a'grian an-comhnaidh nad shùilean.
Fairbankis isn't quite as far north as the arctic circle, but if memory serves, (I am back in Juneau, far, far to the south), sun rise was about 10 or so in the morning and in the afternoon sunset was about 3, no later than three anyway. Dusk lasts about 2 hours.
At mid-day, the sun is very low to the horizon. It's tough if you're driving, it seems like the sun is always in your eyes.

Chanainn "chan eil uisge sam bith ann"
Tha an-seo co-dhiù. Bha an t-uisge glè throm ann, ach tha e nas fheàrr an-dràsda.
It is raining here tough. It was raining hard, but it's better now.

Ro-innse bodach na h-aimsir gu robh geamhradh nan àbhaist gu bhith againn ann an Juneau agus tha e ceart, thàinig an fhuachd a dh'Iuneau. Anns a' mhadainn, bha i mu -18C neo 0F (fada nas fhuaire nan àbhaist) agus gaoth làidir ann. Thug mi mo bhaighdeagail co-dhiù, sia mìle. Bha mi gu math faiceallach leis mo chuid-aodaich, seach mo chasan, bha mi blàth gu leòr.
The weather man had predicted a colder than normal winter in Juneau and he has been right. The cold came to Juneau this morning (it was cold all weekend actually). -18C or 0F (much colder than normal) and a stiff wind. I still rode my bicyle to work, 6 plus miles. I was pretty careful with my choice of clothing and I was pretty warm except for my feet.
