Oh dear - I don't know where to start! I would love to learn Gaelic, but can't find any local classes so when I saw this link on Facebook I thought it would be ideal. I got as far as 'Is mise Linsay' with a book, and Ciamar a tha thu? (I think) but think I need some support with this!! Does anyone know of any classes in the Falkirk/Stirling area?

Hi everyone!
'S mise Eoiseua (<- My bad attempt at a Gàidhlig spelling of Joshua )
I just started learning Gaelic this week, and the book which I'm learning from has very little in the way of pronunciation help, so in my quest for aid in this, I discovered this forum! Huzzah!
Just a little bit about me: I'm from Iowa in the USA, and I am an amateur linguist and conlanger.
I'm hoping my time here will help me practice and learn on my journey to learn the language of my ancestors.

Several online dictionaries have sound files too, eg Am Faclair Beag - actually a very large dictionary! (for many words),

forgive me for using English but my Gaidhlig is too rudimentary. I accessed TAIC and I am having trouble with the sound files. I can download them on my pc (windows 7 the latest) but they do not play. I tried to use google, chrome, and Firefox, with the same results. I tried to open them with iTunes but it buffers and buffers and gets no where. I can play the mp3s on my ipad2. Pls advise. I am ready to donn a saffron robe and commit suicide, well almost...
Ps I notified TAIC's designer already, but I was hoping you can advise me.

Download and install VLC media player you should have no problems. This will play every conceivable audio and video file.

I just tested with Windows 7 and VLC, it is working. You might get a download window and have to click the file, but it does work.

RealPlayer or Real Alternative should play the files as well, but VLC is better, since it plays pretty much everything under the sun.

Have a look at the Gaelic2012 threads for tips, links, and particularly the chance to network with the other learners. Get together with others on here, or arrange to Skype or email each other for practice and mutual support.

Try out your 'cuid Gàidhlig' in that section of the Forum and in the regular Bilingual section as well - we do our best to help, correct and give general support!

And you'll find a good few Runrig fans on here too. There's a thread 'Òran na Seachdain' in the Gaelic2012 section which is still discussing 'Alba'!
