Dè tha dol aig an deireadh-seachdain?

Unread post by horogheallaidh »

Gàidhlig

'S e Dihaoine a th'ann agus taing do shealbh! Dè tha sibh ris aig an deireadh-seachdain? Bithidh mi-fhìn trang leis an teaghlach, mar as abhaist, ach tha duil 'am gum faigh mi cothrom feasgar a-maireach 'son geama no dha pool a chluich agus pinnt no dha ri òl aig an aon àm.

Tha mi an dòchas gum bi deagh dheireadh-sheachdain agaibh cuideachd!

Beurla

It's Friday, thank goodness! What are your plans for the weekend? I will be busy with the family, as usual, but I hope to get the chance to play some games of pool tomorrow afternoon and drink a few pints too.

I hope you all have a good weekend too!

Mura bheil Parca nan Granndach, Inbhir Nis, reòta a-màireach bidh mise a' dèanamh air a' gheama eadar Clach na cudainn agus Inbhir Narann. Coma leamsa Caley agus a leithid sin 's ann le leag na Gaidhealtachd a gheibh thu "fìor" ball-coise - "reality football" mar a chanas iad.

If Grant Park in Inverness isn't frozen tomorrow I'll be heading for the game between Clach and Nairn. I couldn't give care less about Caley and the like. It's in the Highland league you get true soccer - "reality football" as they say in the other language.

Bidh mi a' gearradh an fheòir feasgar. Feumaidh mi seo a dhèanamh a h-uile seachdain-deireadh tron t-samhradh.

I'll be cutting the grass this afternoon. I need to do this every weekend through the summer.

Cha robh mi gur tuigsinn glè luath -- seadh, seo an t-samhradh a tha ann an Astràilia a-nis!
I've not understood you very fast -- yeah, it's the summer in Australia now!

Chaidh mise gu oifis a' phuist an-diugh airson na leabhraichean a chur dhan fheadhainn a tha a' fuireach ann na bailtean eile.
I went to the post office today to send the books to some people that live in other cities.

Feumaidh mi tìodhlac air choireigin a cheannach dha mo bhana-charaid a-màireach: bidh i leth-chiad bliadhna gu luath.
I must to buy some present for my friend tomorrow: she'll be 50 soon.

Chan eil planaichean gu sonraichte againn aig an deireadh-seachdain seo, agus tha e math air sgath 's gu bheil agam sneachd gu leor a "shoveling".
Chuir sia orleach de shneachd an-dè. Feumaidh mi cuideachd a' thoirt dhan seann tè a tha a' fuireach ri ar taobh. Tha ise ro shean airson "shoveling" (agus chan eil mise cho òg nas motha!).

We don't have special plans this weekend, and it is a good thing because I have plenty of snow to shovel. Six inches of snow fell yesterday. I have to help the elderly woman who lives next door to us. She is too old for shoveling (and I and not so young either!).

Either air an fheasgar or simply feasgar - unlike with madainn or oidhche, you don't need the preposition and article to say "in the evening/this evening".

Latha/Là na Sàbaid. The grave accent is trebly important here because (1) it shows different pronunciation (2) it shows different meaning (3) it's somebody's favourite example of the latter :priob:
